Fediverse beekeepers: I am overrun by swarms. A fourth showed up in a tree today, not from my own hives, and I am out of space and equipment. Any tips on encouraging them to move on by themselves other than just leaving them alone and making sure I don't have frames out?

Update: I ran an errand and they departed in that time.

We have a few bees in the blue hive. The inspection there is very promising. I'd say 50,000-60,000. I estimate the top brood box to weigh 70 lbs of so. We enjoyed two teaspoons of honey off one frame overloaded on the end. Now to silence my ringer for "Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade" at Ronnie's 20.

First honey harvest this year – the two supers from green and blue hives yielded 36 kg in total. We usually run small batches so we extract the honey using a press.

Well the HarpHives have suffered another setback. I discovered the queen was gone on Thursday in the yellow hive, probably killed. I also found these emergency queen cups with larvae in royal jelly. I met with the beekeepers helping me on Friday to see what my best course of action is. I'm now on the list for the St Louis Beekeepers Sustainable Queen rearing program. My hive is trying to produce their own but I want to get new genetics. Two steps forward one back.

W ramach wspomagania pszczół w tym dziwnym sezonie, a też dla wzmocnienia odkładów (w tym roku prawie wszystkie pnie to odkłady), przy współpracy omc zięcia udało się doprowadzić do sytuacji, gdzie wszystkie ule mają przynajmniej po 7 ramek dadanowskich, otrzymały podkarmiaczki, a do nich syropu tak po 3kg cukru przeliczeniowego. Ale jak tak dalej pójdzie, to trzeba będzie jeszcze w czerwcu odpalać mieszacz i zapodawać następne porcje. #pszczelarstwo #beekeeping

One of the old beekeeping boxes. The dates inside are from 25 years ago. The last beekeeper died 11 years ago.

They're rotten on the outside and full of mouse poop and god knows what else. Nothing much usable left there, I think.

I'll take them apart and recycle, mostly into sauna fuel and scrap metal.

Maybe keep the combs for melting into wax, will have to take a closer look later.
