#BiohackEU23

2024-01-26

✨ Last November, ELIXIR held #BioHackEU23 in Barcelona, Spain 🇪🇸 hacking through 35 #bioinformatics projects with 350 bioinformaticians.
👀 Stay tuned with us, the call for project proposals will start in February!

new preprint (likely staying like that): "Rendering co-author graphs using linked-open-data from #Wikidata" osf.io/preprints/biohackrxiv/p #BioHackEU23

Basically, Figure 1 from the article with the caption: "Co-author network of participants of BioHackathon Europe 2023, as defined by data inWikidata on 2023-11-02 at 15:00 CET"

The figure shows graph authors (some with photos) connected when they in the past co-authored an article.

Congratulations to the #Annotation team for their hard work on the #BioHackEU23 last week! 🎉 @elixir_europe

Together, the team managed 30+ annotation runs, focusing on ~7 species.

🎉 #BioHackEU23 has come to an end!
Thank you all for joining us this year. And a special thanks to those who participated online and overseas for staying up late hacking through different projects with us 🙌.
👏 It’s amazing to see over 300 participants hacking their way through 35 projects, creating new #opensource features, code and resources for #lifescience researchers.
It has been a great week with lots of fruitful outcomes and we look forward to seeing you next year for #BioHackEU24!🥳

The #BioHackEU23 has been a pleasure! Personal highlights: Community renamed to *Image* Community, conventions agreed for tools github.com/elixir-europe/bioha, >100 tools curated! Special thanks to project lead

today's #BioHackEU23 continues with tweaking and the first bits of report writing. One tweak including adding InChIKey support in the WikIPathways Bioschemas JSON. That means adding @bridgedb into the code base. No problem, but the generation is just a bit slower now.

updated network, also including more photos of researchers, cc @elixir_europe: scholia.toolforge.org/event/Q1 #BioHackEU23

The network is now connecting all participants in the diagram (34 people, 15 are not). Also, ten photos now.

oh, and thanks to all the enthusiasm of people about the @wdscholia co-author map for #BioHackEU23 at scholia.toolforge.org/event/Q1

Co-author network of participants (listed in Wikidata) of the BioHackathon Europe 2023, showing 29 people as nodes (out of 38) that have at least one joined article (edges). Five participants have a photo associated to their Wikidata page and these show up in the graph too.

in the end I started using the org.json library, tired of escaping characters.

The #BioDataFuse plugin for #wikidata is done, with the help from the core developers with some Python stream fixing, and now retrieves literature for (human) genes and cellular compartments for their proteins

How was your #BioHackEU23 day?

Impressive foresight of whoever built this church to include Zoom booths. The adjacent booths were not as comfortable though. #BioHackEU23

meanwhile, day three of the #BioHackEU23 has started. did not make a lot of progress last night, but did upload the first WikiPathways data dump of Bioschemas

working on a #wikidata plugin to return articles about genes/proteins and in another project made progress with improved @wikipathways Bioschemas annotation. Oh, and worked a bit on #BioHackEU23 in Wikidata/Scholia

✨ The second day of #BiohackEU23 starts with lots of HACKING on-site, through Zoom, and cross different time zones.
We made a word cloud to summarise keywords of projects this year.
Guess what’s the most used keyword…DATA 💾!

the second #BioHackEU23 has started and I got a bit more this morning. E.g. got my first steps made in github.com/BioDataFuse/pyBioda

I think I was follower #3 or such. Absolute coincidence that today #biohackeu23 started.
