First #calciumimaging of the #honeybee brain during #sleep.
#Machinelearning distinguishes sleep from wakefulness with 93% accuracy in #olfactory network. Clearest difference: the #neuralnetwork state. Nodes are more synchronized during sleep.
A simulation shows reduced inhibitory coupling during sleep, meaning less information processing. Increased inhibition during wakefulness leads to highly distinguishable odour maps. #CIMeC #UniTrento

📃The tip of the nose reliably changes temperature according to the level of #socialanxiety, while other parts of the face do not, report #CIMeC 's Javier Albayay and colleagues in Anxiety, Stress, & Coping. The team trained a thermal camera on subjects engaged in five #socialinteraction tasks. The task involving interactions with strangers was the most effective, even more so than public speaking, embarrassment or interaction with the opposite sex.
