The bootloop of Arris TG2492S cable modem stopped, when I disabled ntp servers (disabled by default).
The bootloop stops by unplugging the F-connector/antenna cable.
Earlier I resolved the bootloop with factory reset.

I had to replace mine last year & settled on an Arris SBG8300.
Aside from a little tinkering with IPv6, it's just been a set-and-forget appliance for me. Our home network is very small(~8 devices); but, there's plenty of room to grow it with this box should the need arise.
I was mainly concerned with it being Xfinity/Comcast compatible for our apt building. Ended up just heading down to our local Best Buy to pick it up.
Good luck!

I wish Spectrum Cable were on here so I could blast their butts. I finally unpacked their suitcase-sized box with a "new, faster" modem today. After taking the shrinkwrap off, I found that mine was pre-broken. 🤬 The box was the size of a suitcase, & looked perfect when FedEx delivered it. It was also mostly empty space. I'm really glad I don't work for them anymore. We also need *more choices* in ISPs. #SpectrumCable #cableModem #Spectrum #Charter #busted #telcos #cable #ISPs #tech

It took a SINGLE copper wire surrounded by dielectric and a wire mesh which was originally designed to carry analog audio signals. Now with #DOCSIS4 we can get 10GBps of degrees and ~7GBps ingress. That same Layer 1 single wire can now care thousands of audio streams, video, data, etc
TFW you check your cable modem and see it's been up for 212 days and has posted 98.9 million corrected errors and 278K uncorrected errors.
Totally normal, right?
TIL Ubiquiti seems to be the only people that make a rack mount cable modem...

Very possible that I fry my cable modem here lol

Great blog post going into how the author discovered they could reach any Cox account/modem remotely and change settings.

Took a bunch of jiggling and jostling, but my new cable modem is in, provisioned, and a speedtest shows double the bandwidth of the old modem. Also, it is BLUE.
BLLLLUUUUUUUEEEEEEEE.
So, last Wednesday from 18:00 through to early Saturday morning our #virginMedia #cableModem #broadband was pretty much unusable. 400ms ping times and 80-100% packetloss. All day Saturday it was fine, then crapped out again Sunday morning, at which point I booked an engineer visit for today.
As soon as that was booked the connection went back to normal and stayed that way 🙄
Doubtless engineer will turn up, declare No Fault Found and charge us £25 for the privilege
True story. Once upon a time, a website that shall remain nameless, for reasons that are soon going to be evident, suspended me for "hacking."
Oh, I'll also mention that this site is a site for software engineers. Yeah, that's relevant.
I had not done any hacking. So I contacted them. They said that they could clearly see in their logs that I had been hacking them, but they could not tell me what it is they actually saw, because that would allow me to hack them some more. They thought they were playing some sort of four-dimensional chess with a mastermind.
I was angry... but then I relaxed, and I talked to my cable modem. I said:
"Yo! Could you renegotiate a new address on the Internet?"
It replied:
"No trouble, boss!"
It renegotiated, got a new address, and then... I was able to access the site again.
:catthinking:
So:
1. These idiots used a technique that could easily be circumvented.
2. Why the hell did they not suspend *my login?????* I could use the site just as well as before.
:headache:

Bonus storytelling round!!!
I can imagine this being the plot of some #shitty #Hollywood show.
Prosecution: "Member of the jury, I'd like to point out that the defendant asked his modem to... [dramatic pause]... negotiate an IP address!!!!!! [Points to the defendant dramatically.]"
Audience: [Gasps and clutches the pearls.]
Judge: "Negotiating an IP address is so vile, that I find you guilty on all charges, irrevocably, and in perpetuity. TO THE CROCODILES!!!!!!"
Jury: "What's our role in all this?"
Judge: "Fuck all! I decide everything, hahahahaha!"

My weekend project - labeling and upgrading all the #RG59 cables and wall plates in our 65 year old house. Ran a brand new, shorter, and more direct cable to our #CableModem and the signal is vastly improved as you can see in the second picture. Venturing into in the dusty crawl space was well worth it! #HomeInternet #DOCSIS #cough #WhoInstalledThis #cabling #sneeze

Have an interesting #networking problem. Got a new xb87 cable modem. My configuration has the modem in bridge mode. Two separate networks with web servers on each one. Externally everything works. Internally the two networks can't talk to each other via the public ip address.
(one is thirring.org, one is tech-tips.ca) This worked fine with the previous modem. #ISP #Shaw #cablemodem Anyone ever see anything like this?
Does anyone have a REAL solid and CLEAR break out of what Cable Modem DOCSIS 2 and 3 Signals should be for upstream and downstream?
