This day is dedicated to raising awareness about lymphedema, a chronic condition characterized by persistent swelling in the arms or legs that does not improve with rest or medication. Understanding this condition is crucial for early detection and management.

Lymphedema can affect various body parts, including the legs, arms, head/neck, chest/breast, and groin. There are two types:

𝟭. 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗟𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮: Genetic and often seen in families.
𝟮. 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗟𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮: Results from factors like cancer treatment, surgery, or major injuries.

If you experience constant swelling that worsens throughout the day or with activity, especially lasting over three months, it’s crucial to seek medical advice.

Although there is no cure, effective management techniques can help reduce swelling and improve function. Treatments include manual lymph drainage, compression garments, skin care, and exercise.
