I really wanted to dislike Furies of Calderon because it's one of the reasons Jim Butcher hasn't written more Dresden Files but it's actually excellent so now I hate it.
(I'm now _begrudgingly_ 3 chapters into the second book in the series.)

2 books in a row that I have to DNF because of their extreme blandness.
The Aeronaut's Windlass and Furies of Calderon, both by Jim Butcher

Finished the #CodexAlera series by #JimButcher. I did not want it to end. So good, and I think I enjoyed it even more than #dresdenFiles. Such good #worldbuilding and character development. And the man can write epic action scenes like nobody else.

We are pleased to announce that #JimButcher will be our Writer Guest of Honor for #NWC46!
Jim Butcher is the author of #TheDresdenFiles, #CodexAlera, and a new #steampunk series, #TheCinderSpires. His resume includes a laundry list of skills which were useful a couple centuries ago, and he plays guitar quite badly. An avid gamer, he plays tabletop games in varying systems, a variety of video games on PC and console, and LARPs whenever he can make time for it.

I'm reading the first Codex Alera book. Wow; I love this! I already knew Jim Butcher from his Dresden Files books. This isn't that, but he *really* knows how to write action.
Also, every time he uses the term "Knights Aerant" I find myself saying it out loud; it just sounds so cool.
This is the series where the author was challenged to write something based on both the Roman Legions and Pokemon. (In conversation with my kid, I think he's included magic from Avatar: The Last Airbender too.)

Finished Captain's Fury, Bk 4 of Codex Alera. This series is really well-written and enjoyable. Love the growth of characters and the slow but steady reveals of secrets. Moving on to Bk 5 of 6, Princeps' Fury. #CodexAlera #Fantasy #FantasyBooks
Finished Cursor's Fury, Bk 3 of Jim Butcher's Codex Alera. What was hidden, then hinted, becomes clear. Great plot events, really enjoying the series. Moved right on to Bk 4, Captain's Fury. #CodexAlera #fantasy #EpicFantasy
Jim Butcher is impressing me at how well he delivers in the Codex Alera series, a strikingly different style from the Dresden Files urban fantasy. What other authors "wow" you at how well they write in multiple genre styles? #CodexAlera #fantasy #scifi #DresdenFiles
I've been loving Jim Butcher's epic fantasy series Codex Alera. Which of course means I NEED to talk about it! Here is my Rapid Review episode (under 10 minutes) all about Book 1, Furies of Calderon. Check it out! #CodexAlera #Fantasy #FantasyBooks https://youtu.be/AQPj9SXqr8M
I'm consuming Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series via audiobook. Delightfully, the narrator is Kate Reading. She is just as marvelous as ever, bringing these characters to life. 65% through Bk 2 now, Academ's Fury. #CodexAlera #Fantasy #FantasyBooks #KateReading #audiobooks
Academ's Fury, Bk 2 of Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series - protagonist has gone two days without sleep because of so many needs and demands on his time, pushing him towards a breaking point. Hmmm - Jim Butcher, this seems a familiar plot point... #CodexAlera #DresdenFiles #fantasy
Just finished Furies of Calderon, Jim Butcher's Codex Alera Bk 1. Loved it! Interested adventure with a touch of underlying mystery, much still to be revealed. Epic fantasy fun. Moving right on to Bk 2, Academ's Fury. #CodexAlera #fantasy #FantasyBooks
Halfway through Furies of Calderon, Bk 1 of Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series. Such an engaging tale, with deeper mysteries and revelations just starting to come along. I'm really glad I opted to begin this series. #CodexAlera #fantasy #FantasyBooks
Jumped 30 books down my TBR for my next audiobook, as some either aren’t available in audio or I own them in Kindle. Means I’ve started Jim Butcher’s Codex Alera! Thanks to business travel today, already 7 hours into Bk 1, Furies of Calderon. It’s excellent! #fantasy #CodexAlera
