Fair point — fuel license is step one, not the finish line. Reactors are still years out. But the pipeline is real: Dow's Long Mott construction permit is under NRC review now, Amazon's Washington project is in motion, and Centrica signed on for 6 GW in the UK.

I dug into the full picture — ownership, funding ($1.8B raised), global pipeline (11 GW / 144 reactors), and what still has to happen before any of this generates a single watt:

Amazon-backed X-Energy gets green light for mini reactor fuel production

> Amazon inched closer to its atomic datacenter dream on Friday after the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) licensed its small modular reactor partner X-energy to make nuclear fuel for advanced reactors at a facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

> The approval clears yet another hurdle to the commercial rollout of these miniaturized reactors by major bit barn operators. Amazon became one of the first to embrace the yet unproven tech in late 2024 when it made a $500 million bet on X-Energy's Xe-100 reactors to end its reliance on the power grid and fuel its datacenter growth.

> X-Energy's license under 10 CFR part 70 enables its subsidiary TRISO-X to manufacture the high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) fuel pellets that will eventually power that reactor. theregister.com/2026/02/14/x_e #Amazon #NuclearEnergy #SMR #SmallModularReactors #XEnergy #AmazonWebServices #AWS #NuclearFuel #HALEU #CleanEnergy #NuclearPower #TechNews #DataCenters #EnergyInnovation #NRC #OakRidge

Text Shot: “This report reframes hyperscale data centers not simply as passive consumers of energy and water, but as active agents in the energy transition and water management,” said Jackson Ewing, director of energy and climate policy at the Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability. “In collaboration with policymakers and stakeholders, hyperscalers could emerge as accelerants of clean technology deployment, grid modernization and operational innovation rather than impediments to sustainable futures.”

fElon and his company are continuing to fuel its with unpermitted gas turbines. Thermal footage captured via drone shows is still burning at a facility in Southaven, , despite a recent Environmental Protection Agency ruling reiterating that doing so requires a state permit in advance.

The first and only public hearing on the matter is scheduled for Tuesday 17 February, and the public comment period is still open.

#US is moving ahead with colocated nukes and #datacenters
#Nuclear-powered datacenters in the US are moving closer as a consortium prepares to build proposed facilities for the #DepartmentofEnergy (#DoE) at the Idaho National Laboratory (#INL).
At the end of 2025, nuclear developer #DeepAtomic submitted its proposal to the DoE to build what it calls the "nation's first nuclear-powered #AI and #HPC #datacenter campus," at INL, where commercial nuclear power was pioneered.
