Southern Methodist University: From rails to revolutions: New windows into the past in digital collections. “What do a sugar railway in Cuba, U.S. soldiers hunting Pancho Villa, and a priest blessing a taxi in Mexico have in common? They’re all part of a fascinating array of newly digitized materials now available in SMU’s Digital Collections.”

#Tainacan: With nearly 2,000 active installations and over 50,000 downloads, the project has moved beyond "Beta." Having been tested by thousands, Tainacan version 1.0.0 is now launched, marking the completion of the initial roadmap. The primary goal of providing a #freesoftware solution for managing #digitalcollections and cultural objects in Brazilian institutions has been achieved, paving the way for broader applications.

Have never been to Florida but once upon a time FAU's Recorded Sound Archive Judaica collection was the top digitised Yiddish music archive, still in the top 5. I for one won't use it anymore and may be petty enough to remove old links to it from blog posts. Fuck 'em.

If you use digitized items (photos, manuscripts) or digitized historical audio/visual archives for your research, there is a new study out trying to understand how you find/use digitized, online library materials. The short, anonymous survey should take approximately 8-10 minutes to complete. forms.office.com/r/nuqD9ZJzFq

@nypl I love, love, LOVE the Digital Collections at NYPL!

Recently discovered this wonderful map of Great Kills Harbor and Crooke’s Point (then an island) in Staten Island.

Map of a coastal area showing a harbor, coastline, one large and one small island. On the coast streets and buildings are marked.

There are penciled notes and updates. For example, Southfield Avenue has been updated to Hylan Boulevard.
