出た！タイ人家族には無言で植えたニンニク。奴等はこう言うのを見ると勝手に葉を摘み取って料理に入れ、枯らすし補充もしないので、葉や新芽を食べる物は言わない方がよし。

I set up temporary 6mo mail forwarding from my old US address to my private mailbox service, and I'm now trying to switch it to permanent - but it requires showing up at a US Post Office. No alternatives.

A fun side effect is that I cannot change my USPS Informed Delivery off of the old address. I will get to see the new homeowner's mail for as long as I want.

At least I'll know which of my mail items is errantly sent to them.

Another song memory tonight: A friend I made in Colombia (but American) came to Nantes. It was maybe my first year in Nantes. This song played b/c I had just discovered Beirut. She heard the lyric in the song, "it's been a long time, long time now since I've seen you smile" and she turned to me and said, "I haven't seen you this happy in a long time." I remember that little moment.

I regularly transfer money internationally. I have used Xe.com ("$0 send fee" & a better exchange rate than PayPal or my bank). Xe uses its own exchange rate, which favors it.

I used Wise.com to pay tuition for an Esperanto course. I liked their setup once I understood it. Wise charges an explicit fee, as noted in the transaction details.

I just sent US$ to CAD, using Wise & Xe, same amount for each. I received more money via Wise (despite their explicit fee). A word to the wise...

Update: My bank received the Wise transfer within a few hours. Xe takes a minimum of one day and as much as three or four (as over a weekend). For the Xe transfer, I also have to call them, wait on hold, and go through a series of questions, get an email, etc.

Wise.com is the way to go.

Takze dalsi zábavná situace #expat s #cesko institucemi a finančními institucemi . Pravidelná AML/KYC kontrola. Jak už bylo zmíněno dříve mam CZ občanku bez adresy. Nejmenovaná česká finanční instituce si vyžádala moji estonskou občanku aby mohla ověřit adresu. Tak to neklaplo, estonské doklady na sobě adresu nemají, proč taky když digitalizace a registry fungují. I na sběrném dvoře si jen naskenuji QR kód na občance a systém jim pouze ověří, že jsem rezident dané municipality, proč by žena za přepážkou vůbec měla mít přístup k mé adrese. Tohle je v Česku prostě pakárna, neříkejte že jsem jediný český občan bez rezidenční adresy v ČR. Ten systém je prostě rozbitý už od základů. Tak doufám, že dva utility bills budou stačit.
