Searching for light, losing focus.

Walked the beach
sun too sharp,
lost my focus
chasing texture
the sea had already stolen.

April slipping into May.

Swipe slow.

A groyne on Goring beach, a black and white image focussed on the wooden texture of the groyne, following it from the bottom of the image away from the viewer towards the groyne itself which forms an angled horizon across the sky. A shallow depth of field forces the focus into the joint of the timbers and the shadow that lies within.Pebbles on a groyne on Goring beach. A black and white photograph, a shallow depth of field forces focus on the pebbles, the light catching the shingle beach forming bokeh in the distance.A lady reads, seated on a groyne on Goring beach. She is alone, the book her only companion. The black and white photograph frames her against the sky, windswept hair and glasses contrasting with the sky that falls in tone around her.A bench facing Goring beach, framed such that the top of the bench falls on the leading line of the fences that separate the houses behind from the sea path. Two slats have fallen from the bench seat and been placed underneath. The black and white photo hints at an unfocussed figure just walking right, out of frame, the bench foregrounded to the left leading diagonally right towards the presence.

Remembering a spontaneous coastal trip after a particularly terrible day at work. I spent the evening walking the beach in Whitby while the sun sank, camera in hand, and letting the waves lap around my feet. The best therapy. I think this guy had a similar idea: into the sea I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.

This is a landscape colour image of waves breaking on a beach. The sun is setting out of frame, and the sky is tinged in peach and blue tones. In the middle distance, a lone surfer walks into the waves from left to right, surfboard under arm. He is almost silhouetted in th fading light. Taken in Whitby, Yorkshire, using a Sony RX100.

Early Evening In The Bay, Jakub Schikaneder, 1922-24

Late enough that the light is almost gone and with it the colors. Just a bit of color.

This scene seems sad or empty in a natural way. You wouldn't use "exuberant" or "savage" or "chaotic" to describe it. Something about the house and the cliff is painful to me. & there's a tree near the house that looks like a ghost haunting the bay.

But maybe this is right before a big bonfire party on the beach! Ghosts invited

a dark impressionist scene of a house of whitish stone next to a dark cliff on the shore near a body of water like a calm sea or choppy lake. The color is dim, like the last light of day, with just a touch of pink left in the cloudy sky. There is a sailboat on the water in the distance and a few sea birds are flying in the air. Behind the house and just visible is a tall tree.

The beautiful Northumberland coast. Image taken with a Sony RX100.

This is a colour, landscape image of a light stone house perched on a rocky coastline. The light is fading, with the sun setting out of frame to the left. The light highlights the house, which is sat around a third from the left and the bottom. A path runs from the viewer to the house. Waves are seen crashing on the rocks to the bottom right of the image. A sky of broken clouds, picked out in pale pinks and dark blues, with the blue sky showing through, dominates the top half of the image. The image was taken on the Northumberland coast.

On a dreary day when moving beyond the sofa feels an effort, I'm looking forward to long, warm summer evenings like this one last year.

This is a colourful image of a pier and the sea. In landscape format, the end of the pier occupies the lefthand third of the image, with the remainder looking out to sea. The image was taken during the golden hour on a warm summer evening, so there is a fading warmth to the colours. On the pier is a funfair, including a colourful helter-skelter which towers above the rest of the rides. The reds and oranges of the rides complement the rusty red tones of the metal underside of the pier. These colours contrast with the greenish sea, and the blue sky fading to pale pink on the horizon. In portrait format, the end of the pier sits in the background, and the foreground is dominated by a Victorian lamp. The metalwork around the railings cross the image from left to right at an angle, with the wooden slats of the pier in the immediate foreground. The opaque glass globes at the top of the lamp post are backlit by the setting sun, giving the effect that they are glowing in the fading light. Thinking back to a flying visit to Northumberland late last year. Cold, but beautiful in the winter light. And who doesn't love a castle, especially by the sea?! 😄

This is an image of a medieval castle by a beach. The colours are muted and earthy in fading light. The castle rests on a rock formation and sits at a distance and to the right in the top third of the image. The bottom two thirds comprise waves breaking on the sand and rocks on the beach. Taken with a slow shutter, the water is blurred in the foreground. Taken as sunset approached, the sky is brooding, with some clouds backlit by the fading sun. The image was taken on Bamburgh Beach, Northumberland, with a Sony RX10.
