Hype for the Future 105B: National Forests of Texas

Introduction Within the State of Texas, a total of four (4) national forest zones are included, obviously on the eastern side of the State in which more humidity is typical. For each national forest, a distinct story is told about the State as a whole, with every particular regional divide representing cultural distinctions as well as geographic and potentially natural distinctions. National Forests Within the State of Texas, the national forests are named Sam Houston, Angelina, Davy […]

'A Saamaka land defender is under threat for protecting the Amazon.
In April 2024, the government of Suriname approved a gold-mining concession, nearly half of which overlaps with Saamaka traditional territory—an intact and sacred rainforest area. Mining was set to begin in 2026.'

Hype for the Future 104M: States without National Forests

Introduction While forty (40) of the fifty states of the modern United States contain national forests, and the Territory of Puerto Rico also contains a national forest, the ten (10) remaining states lack national forests for historical, cultural, geographical, and even climatic reasons. Regarding the climate, the forested areas typically require humidity to thrive, though the unnatural Nebraska National Forest has been a manmade endeavor testing the natural environment in the western part […]

In the woods, I spotted an adorable robin. I snapped a few photos, but I noticed it was watching a child playing nearby while his father was engrossed in his phone. He didn't realize that every time the child moved, the bird moved a little closer. Suddenly, the robin gently landed on the child's shoulder. There were gasps of amazement, and the father finally looked up, called to his son, and offered him a treat. The robin flew after them. At that moment, it all clicked: the robin wasn't just friendly, it was also cunning. It knew that where there are children, there's almost always food.

A small robin with a bright orange breast and grayish-brown plumage perches on a thin wire. It's facing forward, with its legs tucked in, and the forest background appears soft and blurred in shades of white.

Hype for the Future 101E: Forested Areas of Brown County, Indiana

Overview The surrounding areas associated with Brown County, Indiana, are often identified by the Hoosier National Forest, the Yellowwood State Forest, and Brown County State Park. While the northern part of the county is often less protected than the areas further south, the canopy and related features of the rolling hills remain fairly similar nonetheless, with the un-glaciated terrain and features relatively similar to the foothills associated with the Appalachian Mountains.
