Binary 5.3 has just been released as a small update. It comes with many translation updates and a few small updates.

Development hasn't been too active lately due to uni work and personal issues. I'm hoping to work on it a lot more over the summer and hopefully past that. In the mean time, get it now on flathub: flathub.org/apps/io.github.fiz

I finally wrote the first part of my journey developing a drum machine app and becoming a GNOME Foundation member. I talked about the great @gnome community, Gnome Circle apps, Gnome Foundation membership perks, and how to come up with an idea.

In the next articles, I will talk about the development of the Drum Machine and the application review process, and what happens after getting your membership and your app being accepted to the Gnome Circle.

I'm excited to share that Drum Machine is now officially on the @gnome translation platform! This is a big step forward in making Drum Machine accessible to users worldwide. You can contribute translations via Damned Lies: l10n.gnome.org/module/drum-mac.

I've just put out Binary 5.2, a small update mostly featuring new translations.

I haven't had as much time or energy to work on it as I'd love due to uni and life, but I'm hoping to work on it more after christmas.

In the mean time, you can get it now on flathub: flathub.org/apps/io.github.fiz

Does anyone have guides and books on getting started with GNOME App Development or rather GTK4 development? Since I finally abandoned Windows 11 to Arch Linux with GNOME I wanted to move my ideas to Linux app development.
PS: I only know the basics of C and Python and only have more advanced experience on Kotlin and Java. I also wanted to use GNOME's Builder IDE.

I discovered Ptyxis recently and it has quickly became my favorite terminal emulator. Its got GTK4, all the various features you would want, AND first-class support for distrobox. If youre on Gnome I highly recommend giving it a try, its so much better than the default.

Binary 4.0 is out now, featuring the new vertical design that is easier to use and more reliable. You can also now directly modify the output.

Additionally, base selections are now saved between sessions. And the base list is now ordered by base size.

@thelinuxexperiment My hope is that #Gnome and #GnomeApps developers adjust their theming engine in a way that allows better integration of their #Apps into other desktop environments. Cooperation, Collaboration and shared, open standards should be in the centre of the #opensource world.

Oh yeah, don't think I've mentioned this yet.

I've landed a new design in Binary (thanks to @gregorni) as part of getting it into GNOME Circle. It fixes many of the issues the old one had (e.g. numbers overflowing, shrinking the entry) and comes with the benefit of making it easier to make the input mutable.

Hopefully should land in Binary 4.0 soon :)

Binary 0.3 is officially out!

New features and improvements include:

  • Conversions to and from octal (base 8) numbers
  • A cleaner headerbar with flat dropdowns for the base selectors.
  • Reworked number conversions to be more reliable and quicker.
  • Added translations for Finnish and German.

In the middle there is an entry text box with a Green focus ring around it, with the input of '37'. Next to it is an equals sign and the answer of 1F.

It's not long until the 1st of June, so why not pick up the guitar and learn some catchy tunes for the summer? I've just published version 7.0 of Fretboard, which brings more accurate chord name prediction, note names on hover for the neck top toggles, and a couple of fixes for various small issues encountered since last release. It should be on Flathub very soon!

I think this looks really cool!

While I do like #inkscape :inkscape:, I think it would be very nice to have a simple #libadwaita vector graphic app that looks more native on #gnome :gnome:.

Is the WIP code for this public? I haven't yet found a git repo :git: of this project.

Might change this down the line (at least once accent colours drop in GNOME), but I have a green accent colour in Binary now:

Small touch, but it makes it feel a bit more unique and fun, and fits with the app's brand with the green logo.

The only feature needed is what I said. The interface for sorting the pics could be similar to the new tab overview feature in #Gnome (see attached image).

And the result must be exportable as a pdf

Bonus features that would be nice to have, but not necessary:

- Add text, change font, color and placement, and select a semi-transparent background color for the text
- Zoom in on a pic, and move it to choose which part is shown in the slideshow
- Export as odp
- Add notes to each page
