I rescued a #leopardgecko from an animal shelter in Virginia two days ago! His name is Mango, age 7, and he was clearly beloved - he came with a whole trousseau of supplies and was quite a bit overfed. His previous middle school owner grew up and went to college, but these guys live for 20 years!

This is a character sheet of a yellow, bipedal, humanoid leopard gecko with dark brown spots and a cream-colored belly. Small, spike lines on top of his head and back, adding a textured ridge. The gecko has a long, patterned tail similar to a leopard's, and he wears thin, round glasses.

Geckos! Spotted loads of these tonight in Padova, hanging out near lights waiting for moths. iNaturalist reckons they are Moorish Geckos (Tarentola mauritanica). Quite large, by gecko standards.

#YouHadOneJob and that was to maintain #Firefox & #Gecko, but I guess like with @thunderbird, #Mozilla can't be assed to do that either.

Eine Eidechse auf der Strasse

Wenn man aufmerksam die Strasse entlanggeht, kann es sein, dass man unverhofft etwas Ungewöhnliches wahrnimmt. Ein Geräusch oder einen Duft etwa. Oder mit den Augen: zum Beispiel ein Tier. Am Samstag, auf dem Weg zum Entsorgen, wäre ich fast über eine Eidechse gestolpert. Ein interessantes Tier, als Reptil entfernt verwandt mit dem Gecko, den ich im Zoo fotografiert hatte. Ein scheues Tier auch, immer darauf bedacht, vor irgendwelchen Fressfeinden Reissaus zu nehmen.

So sass die Eidechse am Samstag mitten auf der Strasse, unweit der schützenden Hecke, und wärmte sich an der Sonne. Durch mich liess sie sich vorerst nicht stören. Ich konnte bis etwa einen Meter ran und sie fotografieren. Als ich noch etwas näher ran wollte, verschwand sie schnurstracks im Gebüsch.

Sie hatte mich wohl für einen Feind gehalten …
