#GenealogistsOfMastodon

Someone in a Facebook #Genealogy group shared this old #FamilyPhoto and I'm now 100% certain they must be related to actor #HenryWinkler. LOL

Vintage early 1900s-era photograph of a lady who bears such a striking resemblance to actor Henry Winkler that it could be him in drag.

Her torso is facing slightly to the right while her face is directly at the camera. She has a long nose and thick darkish eyebrows with very lovely skin. Her brown hair is parted on her left side and seemingly pulled back into a loose bun.

Her high-neck dress is mostly white with lines of color around the shoulders and in a V shape around the chest and down the neck, with a thin line of dark buttons down the middle of her blouse. The fashion is definitely from around 1900-1910.

This photo has been making the rounds on various "Historic Photos" groups on ad-based social media, and countless people are jumping to the incorrect assumption that the baby "must be dead."

As a matter of fact, she was merely sleeping, and was very much alive.

The baby's name is Anna Gibson Adams. She was born in August 1845 and lived until 1884 (age 39 years). Anna Gibson Adams is ID# KZVS-XLS on #FamilySearch, if you would like to learn more about her.

#PostMortemPhotos did exist, yes. Families did sometimes take photos of people after death, and this was often used for memorializing dead children.

But Post-Mortems were unusual. Napping babies were actually very common. Don't be too quick to make exotic assumptions when the simple explanations are the more likely.

"When you hear hoofbeats, think of horses and not zebras."

An antique black-and-white photo from the 1840s. There are three people: a father, a mother, and a baby.

Father is rather tall and has a beard style which was fashionable at the time: the front of his face is clean shaven, and his beard wraps around his chin and into his sideburns. He is slightly balding at the top of his head, near the front of his hairline. His hair is a dark color.

The lady is smiling only slightly. She has dark-colored hair that ends in ringlet curls near her neck.

In Mother’s arms is a sleeping baby, who seems to be about the right age to be taking her first steps and running around just a little. Baby is wearing a striped dress and is deeply asleep in her mother's arms. The baby's mouth is a bit agape, and her head is tilted back a bit. Her cheeks have just a bit of shading to them, which was probably rosey pink in real life.
