#Montana Becomes First State to Close the #LawEnforcement #DataBroker Loophole
Montana enacted #SB282, becoming first state to prohibit law enforcement from purchasing personal data they would otherwise need a #warrant to obtain. The legislation closes what #privacy advocates call "data broker loophole," which previously allowed #police to buy #geolocation data, electronic communications, and other sensitive information from third-party vendors without judicial oversight.

Can anyone here identify this US military plane from 1963?

(also bonus if you are able to geolocate this spot before I do)

UPDATE: Pretty sure now (thanks folks!) that this plane is a Douglas C-54 Skymaster, based on the cowling and wing shape.

#Google will pay a $1.375 billion 😮 fine to the US state of Texas for #tracking users' #geolocation, incognito searches, and collecting #biometric data

The fine will settle 2 lawsuits filed by Texas in 2022

Texas also secured a $1.4 billion settlement from #Meta last year after the company collected #facial scans from users without their permission

Pretty proud about my progress in #OSINT today, #geolocation in particular. Met a friend in the pub yesterday and told him about my new hobby and he challenged me to locate an old vacation photo of his. I didn't have much hope at first as it was a pretty generic wallpaper style photo of some beautiful tropical island beach and I had no additional clues, other than that the photo's quite old and it might look completely different there now. Anyhow, I managed to find the location where the photo was taken (plus/minus ~25m but TBF there's no street view there) and now I wish I had bet a few beers that I'd find it because he was very much convinced it was impossible. Proper OSINT experts would probably yawn seeing the photo but I'm very satisfied with myself today. Might ask him for permission to post the photo as a challenge for everyone, I'd like to see how others would go about solving it.

@beacondb

I agree that it's not a great solution, but it seems like the only thing we have at the moment. I use both in my SSID's. Yes, I know that my neighbors can see that I'd rather Google / Microsoft don\t scan my SSID's, but at least it (hopefully? according to their statements) gets them to skip my SSID's.

I wish there was a way I could give access to Beacon but not Google/Microsoft. Although I guess they can still use the Beacon DB, too as the license is more permissive than copyleft, right?

The subtitle icons themselves function as buttons, which re-direct to a note that is generated via a template containing a geomap widget, and the coordinates as the note title, stored when either of the two ViewToolbar buttons is pressed.

Now the subtitle—in addition to showing the timestamps—contains a location pin icon for the origin GPS coordinates, and a globe icon for the last modified version GPS coordinates.

These are set manually, just to keep things more intentional and optimized, via two new ViewToolbar buttons: fetch current coordinates (for the most recent coordinates) … and set created coordinates, which will populate fields for a tiddler's origin coords.

Looks like this is Ahmadabad, Iran. There is more buildup, but you can see the very large oil terminal in the top left and the river/canal, which is identical.

(looked for the major oil refinery/storage sites in Iran and compared the terrain).

Stumbled across Berlin Express (1948), which has an opening scene where the children of a poor mother bring home a pigeon for dinner. It has a message tied to its leg. Taking it to the authorities, the mother passes a street sign: "Rue des Saules", with Sacré-Cœur visible at the end of the street.

Since I was just street-viewing the area this afternoon, I idly geo-located the spot (as you do). Rue Ste-Rustique, 48°53'13.7"N 2°20'23.0"E

Scene from Berlin Express. A portly matron walks away from the camera up a narrow, cobblestoned street, with a glimpse of Sacré-Cœur at the end. A gendarme is coming down the street from the opposite direction. The Tudor-styled building at left has changed since 1948, but the distinctive pattern of the walls on the right identify the street as Rue Saint-Rustique.2009 Google Street View of the spot. The building at left (La Bonne Franquette) has changed but the wall at right (Le Consulat) is recognisable from the movie scene, as is the rounded shoulder of the building beyond it. The angle of Sacré-Cœur at the end of the alley also looks right. The cobbled paving has changed.
