v0.20.0 Released
v0.19.0 Released
As promised, installed Homebox from @sysadminszone and have given it a go.
It will be replacing Snipe-IT. So simple and easy to use but nice and powerful too. Seeing a few errors in the terminal but nothing affecting the operation (and it is fairly early in its development).
Homebox (from @sysadminszone ) looks like the simplified inventory management system I've been looking for for years! Been (trying at) using Snipe-IT for quite a while, but it's just too powerful and complicated a solution for home use. Haven't given it a go yet, but will install it and let the folks out there know how it goes!
OIDC integration looks like it's coming soon as well which is great!
@sysadminszone Thanks a lot for Homebox!
I just deployed in on my VPS, just need to figure out how I'll do backups

Setup a new application for inventory/asset management today - trying #homebox (https://homebox.software/en/)
So far it looks like it ticks the boxes I need. It's obviously a bit basic compared to Shelf.nu and Snipe-IT, but both of those look encumbered by pay-to-access features or bloat.
Unfortunately the custom attributes are per-item in Homebox and don't seem to be set at a global level, but that's a small problem in the scheme of things.
How do you make things #findable in a community house? Last month we had a focus weekend on improving signage and inventories, to make newcomers more autonomous and reduce the sorting work. Any solutions to recommend?

Ah, RE: QR codes: Under *Tools*, there's a custom label generator, where you can specify a base url. Still, the QR codes in the rest of the UI will still contain the useless local service url.
Stumbled upon #HomeBox¹, a pragmatic and easily self-hostable inventory tracking system. On :nixos: #NixOS unstable, this gets you started:
```nix
services.homebox = {
enable = true;
settings.HBOX_OPTIONS_ALLOW_REGISTRATION = "true";
};
```
It looks cool and easy to use, but apparently there's no item movement history and one can't set the public url so all generated asset QR codes will be wrong IIUC 😅
#SnipeIT refused to even start for me with perm errors. 🤷
Whoops, we forgot to announce it here on this social platform.
But we added Tonya to the Homebox maintainers team. They've already made a bunch of contributions since we've taken over Homebox, but this brings in another maintainer. This onboarding helps cement the future of Homebox and our path towards v1.
You can check out their Github https://github.com/tonyaellie
We always appreciated contributions from anyone, no matter their experience with open-source.

@tankerkiller125 Hi Matt, I really appreciate your dedication to keeping Homebox alive. I hope the small bounties and my ongoing GitHub sponsorship help motivate you to continue the great work. #Homebox #opensource #selfhosting #Selfhost
I really want this. https://github.com/sysadminsmedia/homebox
I don't want to be the person entering all my objects/things/containers into it. 😞
RPGs have left me with, alas, very unrealistic expectations about inventory management.
We've released version 0.13.0 of Homebox. It has some minor improvements and some fixes.
Want to earn some money for contributing to open source? We have several open issues on Homebox being sponsored.
Feel free to check them out
https://github.com/sysadminsmedia/homebox/issues/6 - Add OIDC Support.
https://github.com/sysadminsmedia/homebox/issues/109 - Ability for admin to 'share' locations/specific items with lower tier users
https://github.com/sysadminsmedia/homebox/issues/110 - Ability to Move all Child Items when the Location of the Parent Item is Changed
We implemented a bounty program for contributors on our Homebox project.
We're hoping to build a thriving community around this amazing open-source project, and maybe get some contributors paid in the process.
