Wow, schon seit über 14 Jahren überwache ich nun mein Heimnetz mit Icinga.

Ich habe nun die neue Version 2 von Uptime Kuma ausprobiert (https://uptime.kuma.pet/), welches rein auf Netzwerkmonitoring ausgerichtet ist, während Icinga u.a. auch Systemmonitoring beherrscht (Partitionen, Prozesse, Last, etc. überwachen) und über Plugins erweiterbar ist.

Uptime Kuma ist einfacher gestrickt, schnell installiert und lässt sich komplett über die Web UI einrichten. Wenn man so will: Klicki-Bunti für Leute, die schnell Netzwerk-Dienste wie HTTP, DNS etc. überwachen wollen.

Es bietet zudem eine Menge Benachrichtigungsoptionen (E-Mail, Mattermost, Nextcloud, etc.). Schön ist auch, dass man Status-Seiten einrichten kann, die öffentlich einsehbar den Status der Dienste anzeigen.

Assembled, basic setup done and integrated in #icinga monitoring

I spent all day managing our hosts on Icinga using Terraform to see that custom variables are not reported by the API, which makes the Terraform provider recreate the resource every time. This seems to be a limitation of Icinga, not the provider.

I'm sick of their eventual consistency home-made multi-master model. If I create something, I want it to be available right now and in the same state. As a user, I don't want to reload the service, which I can't reload myself by the way, to read data from somewhere unknown to see what I have just created.

Lennart Betz, Senior #ITAutomation Consultant at betadots, will be one of the speakers at the #OpenSource #Monitoring Conference #OSMC, which will take place in November in Nuremberg, Germany.
He will give a talk on "Auto Discovery with Icinga". In a live demo, he will show the possibilities for automatically recording hosts and services in #icinga Here, the director isn't, and only #OpenVox / #Puppet is used.

@jan #Icinga it is for me, which works fine.
But I am also doing that as a day job and have only limited experience with other systems. Might be too much work upfront for smallish setups if you are new.

I think Zabbix is conceptionally similar.
