TIL: whenever they cash a check, they print a transaction reference number on the back of it and your bank can give you a print out of the check's back which does also show the routing information and all institutions that were part of the cashing of that check.

TIL: it might have been a bit naive of me to think that the IRS might be able to trace my payment based on the data of the check.

TIL: they have an online portal where you can upload your documents as you speak with an agent, but not all agents can use this and some can still only receive documents via fax.

Warning for anybody that may need to pay U.S. estimated tax. They started a new login system (I’m not sure when, this is the first time this year I’ve attempted to pay any estimated tax) called ID.me. You’ll have to set up a new account if you don’t have, with ID and biometric face video. While I attempted to do so, it suspended my account 🤷🏼‍♀️

Remember how Republicans lost their minds over the supposed “IRS scandal” under Obama? Just last week, Ben Shapiro was still pushing this narrative on Ezra Klein’s podcast:

And it is a major problem when the president of the United States unleashes law enforcement on his political opponents.

So yesterday I got a check from the #IRS. It appears that after finalizing the amount due on our 2022 taxes, the IRS charged interest through 10-Sept-2025 and I paid it on 1-Sept-2025. Thus I got a "massive" refund of $5.32.

At least this is proof my 2022 taxes are finally settled. After over a year of back and forth.
