My third read of the year, a Classic (for certain values of Classic 😆 ): The Crystal Shard by R.A. Salvatore, first book (first published at least) in the legend of Drizzt the drow and Icewind Dale.
I loved the old #IcewindDale games, especially the second (alas that it didn't get an enhanced edition), and I've always been curious about these old D&D novels. So it was about time I got started.
Apparently Salvatore's first book, which shows, but still good nostalgia.

I'm on Chapter 5 of #BaldursGate. I first got the box set with TotSC included and maps and everything back in 2003, when it was in the charity shop I worked at. A woman was going to buy it for her son. She asked me what the age rating was, because she couldn't see it, and when I showed her it was for 15+, she decided against it, so I snapped it up and started on the road to becoming an #ADnD2e fangirl! I later found the #DnDBasic set in another charity shop a few years later for £2.50. They had a lot of miniatures too, but I never bought them. That's when I went full-on fangirl, bought the guides, started crafting my own campaign world and got my nephew to play for a short time.
I never finished Icewind Dale. I couldn't defeat the final boss. I don't think I ever installed Icewind Dale II. I'm not sure if it's because I needed a break from the series or because it wouldn't work on my crappy netbook.
AD&D2e will always be the best version for me. The only issue was the crappy alignment definitions, but people have made fixes for that, so it's fine (I'm a chaotic neutral btw).

I'm of the mind to play Icewind Dale with a bard character. I usually have a thief in the party to unlock things and disarm traps, but in the past didn't see the point of bards in #DnD. Actually bards can do some of the same things like thieves. It might be interesting to switch things up a bit.

replaying #IcewindDale EE (maybe I'm actually gonna finish it this time!) because there's a whole bunch of new party member/romance mods & y'all know that's what I'm about lol
and I keep forgetting how hilariously OP the archer kit is in this game
I mean I still had to reload a bunch because I didn't consider party balance when picking characters & don't have a proper tank (um it's called ROLEPLAYING)
but anyway there's some shorty romance stuff that I'm kinda hyped about

I've been reliving my late teens by playing #icewinddale (now ported on the #Switch )
After 20+ years, I think I'm finally getting the mechanics of it.
I did complete it once before with some judicious cheating, but normally I got frustrated and deleted my parties when they got inevitably laid waste in chapter 1 or 2.
I've got a good feeling about this lot tho...
If it's working out, I'm tempted to go back and make a party with real 1st roll attributes.
