- All the group bullshit can happen even in #groups where everyone knows about the group bullshit. #Groupthink, group-based identities, #ingroup status games, ingroup favoritism, #outgroup derogation, #status seeking by attacking outgroup members, etc... it all happens here.

(Again, I don't think it happens as much as in conservative spaces, and it doesn't seem to be the unspoken, universally-approved structure of how everything works, as it is in some other spaces, but none of us are immune)

@Jaden3
People with a tiny bit of privilege + no true friendly coworkers or true friends of different races, ethnicities, cultures, + sexualities don't tend to want to spend free time with those they see as "others".
There's a dwindling sense of public spaces, or even privately owned community spaces like pools, being either neutrally or kindly shared, as opposed to a handful of individuals roughly bouncing around in the same space, competing for dominance.

Ingroup-Outgroup Dynamics
Narrowing of Identity Boundaries: Some gay individuals may narrowly define their as consisting only of people with similar sexual orientations, seeing gender identity issues as unrelated or even oppositional.
Theory: Gay individuals might prioritize their own group's visibility and rights, leading to less concern for trans issues.

If I'm reading this right, making people collaborate on a common task forces them to see the people they collaborate with as similar to them and thus encoded into their #ingroup (and not just as part of the #ourgroup).
I can't help but wonder if this is where a lot of the "I have a friend who's..." nonsense comes from. 🤦

@mori Even more characteristic of "conservative" thinking: Some groups are less than human and their health needs can be dismissed if they conflict with our financial wants.
