@fullrange agree (if “technically withdrawn” includes planting some trees). And #IntegratedAssessment scenarios can help the policy discussion by quantifying when, how and where to remove the carbon from the atmosphere!

One headache in modeling & scenario analysis are inconsistent country names across different data sources.
So we developed an open-source #Python package to harmonize names in the #IntegratedAssessment & #EnergySystems communities...
The country names are based on ISO3166-1 standards, and the package has a few utility features to streamline modeling & analysis.
#ReadTheDocs at https://nomenclature-iamc.readthedocs.io/en/stable/api/countries.html, or visit the #GitHub repo at https://github.com/iamconsortium/nomenclature
Most quantitative scenarios used by the #IPCC are based on the #SharedSocioeconomicPathways (or #SSP), implemented in process-based #IntegratedAssessment models - these are not DICE-style models.

@anlomedad_real I agree with much of the criticism in the Boell study in principle, but let me add two clarifications:
1. There are two types of #IntegratedAssessment models of #ClimateChange: cost-benefit models like #DICE and process-based models like #REMIND & #MESSAGE - see this explainer https://www.carbonbrief.org/qa-how-integrated-assessment-models-are-used-to-study-climate-change/. Only the latter are used for analysis like the #IPCC #WG3 scenario assessment.
Just presented at this year's meeting of the #IntegratedAssessment Modelling Consortium #IAMC, on possible production pathways for #hydrogen and associated emissions: there's low-carbon and then there's *low*-carbon, and we should be mindful about carbon infrastructure lock-in and technology learning.

- main interest in #IntegratedAssessment modelling #IAM to fuel the transition to sustainability
- especially #ClimateMitigation but not only (#SDG, #PlanetaryBoundaries, #DoughnutEconomics, #materials)
- spillover from other interests is possible (#Cinema, #ScienceFiction, EU politics)
