"Lady Marmalade" is a song written by #BobCrewe and #KennyNolan that is famous for the #French refrain of "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir?", which is a sexual proposition that translates into English as: "Do you want to sleep with me, tonight?" The song first became a #popular hit when it was recorded in 1974 by the American #funkRock group #Labelle and held the number-one spot on the #Billboard Hot 100 chart for one week.

Labelle were a trio including Patti LaBelle, Nona Hendryx, and Sarah Dash, and grew out of Patti Labelle and the Bluebells. They are the original “Lady Marmalade” power trio – and this was their best-selling album. Allen Toussaint produced and The Meters supplement (replace?) Labelle’s usual band.

My copy is the January 2024 Vinyl Me Please Essentials reissue, on orange (marmelade) vinyl, with listening booklet by Sasha Geffen and an “art print” by Jean Pierre Consuegra. Great album and wonderful pressing.
