The Litter Robot 4 is amazing (and the 3 is excellent too).

The ExquisiCat Crystal litter is great with it! Really great!

I thought the ExquisiCat Crystal Clumping Litter would be even better.

BIG MISTAKE!

It clumps, but it sticks to the side of the litter box and hardens into a very hard clay. After just a week, I've had to scrape it off the side of the globe, up the side, near the hopper entrance, between *and behind* the grills, and now I'm giving the globe a full clean, and despite hard scraping, it's still leaving remnants and a sludge behind.

And when i say scraping, I mean with metal objects and a lot of force, which is a problem because the rubber lining is fragile, and it's weakened because the mass of litter is wet with cat urine, making it even more fragile!

It's an absolute disaster. DO NOT USE THE CRYSTAL CLUMPING LITTER WITH THIS LITTER BOX!

I'm going back to the regular crystal litter after I can finish cleaning and drying the box.

Who is ready for a package scheduled to arrive today?

I absolutely love the Litter Robot 4, with only two complaints.

First, I don't love that I would need an app to update the firmware. Our litter robot is synced to my wife's phone, but I wish it could just work with eg HomeAssistant.

Secondly, cleaning inside/under the rubber liner is basically impossible without fully disassembling the unit, which means I never do it. I see "stuff" inside there, but with like 20 screws and no outdoor space, I'm not taking it apart.

Other than that, it's been worth every penny, and I hear the litter hopper makes it even better!

Got home from work a little early today and since it's 90 degrees today I figured it's time for a Litter Robot deep cleaning since it's a little stimky. The kittehs are still day sleeping, so it's a perfect time. And it's warm out, it'll dry fast.

I give our Litter Robot a deep clean about every six months and it's absolutely disgusting. Honestly, you take all the effort you save throughout the year in not cleaning it and you apply much of it at one time, and even then it's nearly impossible to clean all the little crevices.

If we had a back yard this would be much, much easier.

I'm a bit of a #HomeAutomation nut, and I have two cats whose #litterbox is a #LitterRobot made by #Whisker. The mobile app is supposed to notify me whenever the litter drawer gets full, but it's never worked. (Yes, I've already tried logging out/in, uninstalling/reinstalling, clearing cache, disabling battery optimization, etc.)

My main hub is a #Hubitat C-7, and until recently, there was an unofficial Litter Robot integration in #HubitatPackageManager that allowed me to circumvent the Whisker app notification issue. Then, Whisker changed their #API, which broke the Hubitat integration, and I was back to manually checking the Whisker app every day.

Turns out, there's a #HomeAssistant integration that supports the new API, so today, I implemented the most #RubeGoldberg workaround I've ever seen. I installed #Portainer on my #RaspberryPi, spun up HA in #Docker, installed #HACS, enabled the Hubitat #MakerAPI integration, connected it all up, and now my notifications are working again!

I was entirely unprepared to receive this notification. #LitterRobot #cats

I'm now the happy owner of a Litter Robot 4. #LitterRobot It was super expensive but I am so impressed. It's a huge step up from the LR3. Better design, no exposed moving parts, and app-connected so it will let you know which of your cats is visiting - by weight! - and when. Especially if you have multiple #cats, I strongly recommend it. #catsofmastodon

Well, I'm not very happy with the Litter Robot 4.

*The one cat is scared of it, the other lukewarm on it.
*It doesn't trap the stink for very long. Only a few days.
*So this means you need to change the bag pretty often. That's a lot of plastic waste that I wasn't generating with the flushable litter I was using.
*So I tried ordering compostable rubbish bags, made from corn. I already use them for my kitchen bin.
*I just changed the bag for the first time with the compostable bags, and my hand now have a sticky residue that smells like cat waste, that hasn't come off after four scrubs in hot soapy water.
*It's an IoT device. So you need an account to get your cat's weight. Bugger that.

So, all in all, I'm starting to think this thing was a waste of a great deal of money. I got it to have a less stinky household, and it doesn't smell any better than a regularly scooped conventional box with good quality litter. At least, not without me needing to go through plastic bags, or bleach my hands every few days.

Fucks' sake!

I got a #litterrobot because I'm lazy and stooping over to scoop now causes me pain. It never occurred to me that a day would come when I'd be updating shitbox firmware. Life is strange.

I got the replacement part for my #litterrobot so it works now. But I have a different problem. My cat keeps getting in and out of it and sticking his face in during cleaning cycles so the app keeps alerting me that the cleaning cycle has been interrupted and it thinks the waste drawer is already full and the litter is low. The little orange doofus thinks this is his new favorite toy.

Gungi gives the box 1 out of 5 stars. Not for 18 pound cats. But Litter Robot 4 is.

In the world of relatively minor but still very annoying problems, it turns out my #litterrobot is defective, but on the bright side 1) the customer service representative I contacted about it was able to diagnose the problem pretty quickly 2) I am getting a replacement part very soon at no cost to me and 3) I’m free of the nagging feeling that it might have been something I did.

2023-11-11

I finally got a #litterrobot and set it up with the app and everything but it won’t complete its initial clean cycle without getting stuck on something. The app says there’s a “motor fault.” Unfortunately I had to go somewhere before I could try and work out what the problem was, but I think (I hope?) it’s some bit of something getting stuck somewhere that I can clear out myself.

One downside of an automatic litter box is that when you do need to do a full clean, it's much trickier than a traditional litter box. There are many nooks and crannies for litter to get stuck for weeks/months.

It's still overall less work, but on the cleaning days every few months... phew!

Over a decade ago, I tried a number of auto-cleaning litter boxes but with multiple cats including Charlie The Fat Cat (27 lb!) it didn’t really work out well.

My eldest has finally convinced me to buy a Litter Robot. He’s had the 3 and now the 4. (He also has the aforementioned Charlie) I did the obligatory basic research/review reading… the tech is light years better, as is the styling, but I feel like I’m setting myself up for an expensive disappointment. Does anyone have experience w/this model? #litterrobot #CatsOfMastodon

After the pinch sensor on the Litter Robot 3 freaking out the third or fourth time, Robot 4 to replace it.

The Litter Robot 3 is still a good unit, and served us well for roughly three years. I even think it paid for itself in the savings in litter.

But the litter Robot 4 looks a lot more well designed. I hope it holds up!

@serge #LitterRobot can be connected to #Hubitat, which can control other devices, such as air filters. You'd only need to add a bit of logic and a timer.
