🚀🛠️ Behold, the of is... a Victorian fever dream with gears and levers! Because why not ditch electrons for a Rube Goldberg machine when Moore’s Law takes a nap? 🤖🔄 It's the pinnacle of , where efficiency means cranking up the entropy and energy savings involve a calculator from 1822. 🍿🎩

Hey beautiful people! Just posted my review of Crazy Machines 3, where I spent way too many hours trying to make basketballs land in hoops using dominoes, gears, and… stuffed bunnies? 🧩
It's physics puzzle-solving that'll make your brain hurt in the best possible way! Read my full breakdown of this Rube Goldberg simulator: 2tonwaffle.com/crazy-machines-

Another day, another 🥪 of wrapped in a desperate attempt to make relevant again. Instead of waiting for , let's just build an entire Rube Goldberg machine to reinvent the wheel! As if GitHub isn't already bursting with enough "ingenious" hacks nobody asked for. 🙄

📟🤓 Intel's Pentium: breaking news from 1993—apparently, multiplying by three was such a Herculean task it required a Rube Goldberg machine of transistors. 🙄 Meanwhile, Ken Shirriffs continues his thrilling quest to make us all for obsolete circuitry. 🤔🔍

The Incredible Machine is a groundbreaking puzzle game from 1993 that lets you build Rube Goldberg-style contraptions. Released by Sierra On-Line, it offers creative freedom in solving tasks and received praise for its innovative gameplay. The music, composed by Christopher Stevens, perfectly fits the game's playful tone.

"Kedging Cannon" by XKCD comic (mirror bot @xkcdbot ) - Long ago... something like this could plausibly have started the requirement for all kinds of #transportation operators to receive training first. But there is no enforceable requirement for inventors to look for a simpler method first, only ridicule for building a #RubeGoldberg Machine. Maybe there should be. 🤔 xkcd.com/3013/ #science #tech #oops #WTF

Well, yeah, the process is a little -esque… but I’ve managed to connect (i.e. follow both ways) between and here.

Today in Labor History July 4, 1883: Rube Goldberg, who worked hard to make simple things outrageously difficult, was born. He was a writer, engineer, sculptor and cartoonist. Hired as an engineer to design San Francisco’s sewers in 1904, he quit after six months to become a cartoonist for the San Francisco Chronicle. In his 72-year career, he produced over 50,000 drawings and comic strips. In 1922, he was offered $200,000 for his comics ($2.3 million in today’s dollars). And he won a Pulitzer for his political cartoons. However, his contraptions were meant to be a satire on the social and economic havoc wrought by rapid industrialization, and the fact that technology that was meant to simplify people’s lives could have the opposite effect.

Now I'm wondering: is there a collection of contraptions and levels built for @principia to play with it around like in #TheIncredibleMachine? Sort of a #RubeGoldbergMachine, but with #DIY set to make more such levels, you know... :ablobcatwave:

Post inspired by mastodon.social/@256/112417780 and reminiscing about mid-00s #RubeGoldberg type videogame that I can't remember the name of.

Yet another #xkcd Machine, this time featuring a familiar red button...

Screenshot of the xkcd Machine interface

At the top left, a set of gears bring in red balls, which must be sent out through another set of gears on the bottom.

In this machine, they are allowed to simply bounce off a plank at the bottom of the drop, with another plank stopping them from overshooting the target.

In the top left, not in the path of the balls, the word "EASY" has been spelled out in bricks and circled by more planks, resembling the Staples Easy Button.

A few other decorations are present throughout the machine, such as a squirrel and bunny facing each other on the bottom right

I'm a bit of a #HomeAutomation nut, and I have two cats whose #litterbox is a #LitterRobot made by #Whisker. The mobile app is supposed to notify me whenever the litter drawer gets full, but it's never worked. (Yes, I've already tried logging out/in, uninstalling/reinstalling, clearing cache, disabling battery optimization, etc.)

My main hub is a #Hubitat C-7, and until recently, there was an unofficial Litter Robot integration in #HubitatPackageManager that allowed me to circumvent the Whisker app notification issue. Then, Whisker changed their #API, which broke the Hubitat integration, and I was back to manually checking the Whisker app every day.

Turns out, there's a #HomeAssistant integration that supports the new API, so today, I implemented the most #RubeGoldberg workaround I've ever seen. I installed #Portainer on my #RaspberryPi, spun up HA in #Docker, installed #HACS, enabled the Hubitat #MakerAPI integration, connected it all up, and now my notifications are working again!
