Aus gegebenem Anlass einen kleinen Tipp für all diejenigen, die Docker-Container und vielleicht Portainer nutzen: Haltet eure Platte sauber. 🧽 Schaut in Portainer regelmäßig unter Images vorbei und entfernt ungenutzte Images. Portainer macht es dir sehr einfach, da es dir verrät, welche Images nicht mehr genutzt werden. Braucht alles nur Speicherplatz. Und auch der ist endlich. 😉 #Docker #Portainer #Storage #TechTip

@bignose my advice would be to look at #traefik for your revese proxy. It's easier to manage than nginx, especially regarding ssl certificates. #Portainer could also be helpfull

Ich habe es jetzt hinbekommen, dass #Portainer die Docker #Container von meinen drei Servern verwaltet. Das ist rochtig cool!
So langsam wird mein Heimnetzwerk richtig vorzeigbar.
Schade, dass sich in meinem Freundeskreis niemand für so etwas interessiert…

18 июня будет два года как я создал сообщество "Код на салфетке". Сразу оговорюсь, что это некоммерческая история и возникло оно как решение важной для меня проблемы: "недостаток информации для начинающего разработчика". В процессе моего обучения и развития я сталкивался с различными нюансами, которые решались достаточно просто, но найти "комплексный ответ" зачастую было очень трудной задачей. Каждый четверг я выпускал новые публикации, потом эту идею подхватили мои товарищи и мы начали чередовать наши статьи. За эти два года на телеграм канал "Код на салфетке" подписалось больше тысячи человек и я решил, что в качестве благодарности за внимание - устрою честный розыгрыш 9-ти книг по программированию. Oh! Komodo got even closer to the Docker/GitOps management that I want.

It was weird to figure out how to make it work the first time (definitely harder than Portainer), but it does clone the entire repo. I still don't understand why auto updates is not working (it's enabled, but not running every 5 minutes as expected).

I will keep digging into it, but seems to be an interesting solution so far.

Also mit #docker werd ich ned warm....und #portainer hab ich mir auch intuitiver vorgestellt...hat da wer ein anfänger tutorial wo auf das rundherum rücksicht genommen wird? die meisten theoretisieren und erläutern wie man sw damit verteilt aber ned eine best practice wie man sowas dann aufzieht 😐

I can relatively easy GitOps with Portainer BUT it doesn't pull any extra artifacts from my Git repo, UNLESS I'm running the Business Edition.

So while it works great for managing the containers themselves, if I need an external config file, or anything else along with the container, I still need to manage via either my custom Ansible, or a different way to copy the files + restart the container, which kind of invalidates the idea of running Portainer.

It's not fully discarded yet, but this is a wrench in the plans.

I'm out of time today, so I will try a workflow with k3s some time over the week.

I've been managing my Docker Compose files, that run on a few Raspberry Pis, using a custom Ansible playbook. That all started before I had my local Forgejo instance running.

Now I decided I want to do GitOps to manage the compose files, so I need to decide whether I want to shoehorn it with Portainer, or go full-on Kubernetes (k3s). Time for some testing!

Je cherche une solution pour configurer une stack #Docker déployé via #Portainer afin qu'il ne fonctionne que lorsque le #RaspberryPi est connecté à un VPN via #Wireguard (le VPN n'est pas déployé via container). @kline Hey there! Sure thing. I’ve not documented it anywhere formally as it’s a relatively “simple” setup. I’ve got a #RaspberryPi 5 with an Argon Neo NVME Case, and a 500 GB SSD attached to that.

Software-wise, it’s running plain ol’ Raspberry Pi OS and #Docker. I’ve got a docker-compose file which I use for launching #Portainer, which is a GUI for Docker. All of my various homelab services are then launched from within Portainer.

#Traefik reverse proxy handles all of my routing and HTTPS certificate stuff, so I can access my services via pretty URLs like myservice.example.org.

Hope that explains it! Let me know if there’s anything you’d like me to expand on. I can talk about this stuff all day :)

Well, the next step in my #selfhosting journey is complete. With #Pocket being sunset, I needed a new replacement, and as the decline of #bigtech services continues, I did not want to just move to another online read-it-later service, so I decided to try #Wallabag with a local install. Got it up and running in #Docker in a #Portainer stack. Definitely requires some technical know-how and took some troubleshooting at a few points, but it seems to be all squared away now and I was able to import my Pocket data with no fuss. Glad to have done so!

I will miss Review Checker though now that #Mozilla is also sunsetting that.

Next project - standing up a second #PiHole and configuring a high-availability option while I troubleshoot daily performance dips on my single instance currently running. Seems like when the DB hits a certain size, there's a daily job that slows it down. That's all just speculation, haven't really dug into it yet.
