This is the core idea behind Lokjo.com
It's to improve mostly all of us with a VERY simple solution, and take out most of the problems we've been pointing at for decades.
The power IS ours, we just have to change a little habit.

Interessante News aus der Welt der Kartenanwendungen:
1. Bei @organicmaps gibt es offenbar Zank und laut dem Fork @CoMaps sogar Spendenveruntreuung:

2. Das Ein-Mann-Projekt @lokjo als selbsternannte "Alternative zu Google Maps" wurde über Nacht im Fediverse bekannt und gehyped, sodass es traffic-bedingt erst einmal offline ist und ich es noch nicht testen konnte. Auch andere Details (z.B. Bevormundung des Anwenders durch Verstecken großer Ketten) lassen darauf schließen, dass der Hype bald verblassen dürfte.
Lokjo is paused for the moment since we've overran our quotas by a rediculous amount and our api-providers are -logically- closed for hoidays. Geoapify is really flexible with a little boost, but this is just way too much.
We'll be contacting them asap and hope to find a solution.

Here's how the filter works which sorts out corporations/chains from the search-results on our map:
Per category a list is generated from all locations in various big cities. When a certain name shows up an x amount of times it get's a 'mention'.
Then, all mentions are checked manually to see if it's actually a company and not something like 'bakery' or 'shoes' etc. If it's valid it get's added to the list.
There, that's the magic under the hood. Pretty basic. 😊

*a european non-commercial basic replacement for googlemaps, focused on local shops.

p.s. we're aware of most current open source maps, but don't think they fit as a gmaps replacement since they are specialized in other areas.

Just to have this out, our map is not using any AI.
And the suggestion buttons are not individually sponsored locations, like on other maps, but 'themes', showing all locations in your area which fit that theme.

We made it to the Explore tab, and -being a competitor of big media- I don't think we could've done this on corporate social media.
Keep it going and have a great eastern!
Last year our account went down and we're missing a lot of followers to get back to at least the 500 mark.

p.s. We're a fully european online map, supporting local shops, see more in the description of our account.
Our map in a nutshell:
- we're fully EU.
- all searched locations (f.e. clothingshops) are shown at once, no hiding of smaller shops.
- corporations/chains are noted with a grey dot, to raise awareness.
- no cookies, data or whatsoever.

We just like to support the european economy, by offering a place on our map for ALL shops, regardless of advertising budget.
Not just selecting the biggest one on top, hiding the smaller 99%, like corporate maps do.
Like, everybody is welcome, and should be able to be found directly in a relevent search.
That's what we do.
