A new study shows doctors missed 65% of mistakes generated by #AI

At the same time, 90% of the docs rated the AI drafts as trustworthy, "accurate" (70%), and "safe to use" (75%).

What does this mean for "human-in-the-loop"? Read more at this week's AI Prognosis:

Aaaaand the onboarding process for a new clinical position remains exactly the same shitshow it was a decade ago... two decades ago... and still takes 2-3 months.

Provisioning: Sign these 20 affidavit sheets and fax or email them back to us.

Me: This says I have read and agree to abide by "all such bylaws and any policies and procedures that are applicable to appointees of the Medical/Professional Staff." Can you send the bylaws to me? [Repeat above for several other mandatory policies]

P: ... No one has ever asked for them before. Please give us your CAQH username and password.

Me: you know that the CAQH ToS explicitly says not to share login credentials, right? Not that they work anyway.

P: Just give them to us.

For years, I have filed a HIPPA complaint with the privacy office of every website I go to that has a Google Analytics tag that serves my protected health information, like my doctor, MyChart, labs, pharmacies, home health, case management etc. I get brushed off. It just makes me uncomfortable.

🔗 'Read the Manual': Misconfigured Google Analytics Led to a Data Breach Affecting 4.7M

Personal health information on 4.7 million Blue Shield California subscribers was unintentionally shared between Google #Analytics and Google #Ads between April 2021 and January 2025 due to a misconfiguration error.

🔗 BCBS NOTICE OF DATA BREACH: news.blueshieldca.com/notice-o

"On February 11, 2025, Blue Shield discovered that, between April 2021 and January 2024, Google Analytics was configured in a way that allowed certain member data to be shared with Google’s advertising product, Google Ads, that likely included protected health information. Google may have used this data to conduct focused ad campaigns back to those individual members. We want to reassure our members that no bad actor was involved, and, to our knowledge, Google has not used the information for any purpose other than these ads or shared the protected information with anyone."

Like other health plans, Blue Shield historically used the third-party vendor service, Google Analytics, to internally track website usage of members who entered certain Blue Shield sites. We were doing this to improve the services we provide to our members.

On February 11, 2025, Blue Shield discovered that, between April 2021 and January 2024, Google Analytics was configured in a way that allowed certain member data to be shared with Google’s advertising product, Google Ads, that likely included protected health information. Google may have used this data to conduct focused ad campaigns back to those individual members. We want to reassure our members that no bad actor was involved, and, to our knowledge, Google has not used the information for any purpose other than these ads or shared the protected information with anyone.

Blue Shield severed the connection between Google Analytics and Google Ads on its websites in January 2024. We have no reason to believe that any member data has been shared from Blue Shield’s websites with Google after the connection was severed. Upon discovering the issue, Blue Shield immediately initiated a review of its websites and security protocols to ensure that no other analytics tracking software is impermissibly sharing members’ protected health information.

I've now had my feeding tube for 13 years.

Many people knew me as #FeedingTubePaul due to my previous social media accounts on other web platforms due to my advocacy and how-to videos.

It's important to know your choices when filling out your living wills, esp younger people, like if you want artificial nutritional life support. COVID showed us that people of all ages should be aware of their options. I almost didn't get a feeding tube because I was unaware of what life with one would be like. I'm glad I did. It took watching videos of children born with digestive issues living their best lives, just eating differently, to change my mind.

Here is a +decade old short profile about the reasoning for my #FeedingTube from the makers of the Mic-Key feeding tube. #MedMastodon

It records the beginning journey for me. #Introduction

MEET PAUL CHAMBERS

Paul Chambers, 41, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s plus syndrome in June 2012, which over time has affected his speech and his ability to swallow. For Paul his troubles with swallowing began in mid-2011 when he started getting aspiration pneumonia, which happens when food and liquid make their way into the lungs rather than down the esophagus and into the stomach. A barium swallow test (a medical imaging procedure used to examine the upper gastrointestinal tract) revealed that Paul had been experiencing some swallowing difficulties. In an attempt to alleviate these symptoms, Paul began to work with a speech therapist to strengthen his throat muscles.

By late February 2012, the tricks and tools Paul had learned in speech therapy no longer worked. Paul’s hiatal bone reflexes and gag reflexes were completely gone and every time Paul swallowed he couldn’t be sure food and liquids, including saliva, would not get into his lungs. A new modified barium test showed that his swallowing was significantly worse. “At this time, the doctors wanted to take measures early on with a nasogastric (NG) tube or even a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube, but I refused because I assumed the feeding tube was merely a bandage to prevent a quicker death,” said Paul.

if you or anyone you know would like to gift me a 30 day buffer of my two mission-critical medications from Jase Medical, I would gladly accept that donation.

it's very clear that the actual health care system will not be helping me on this, and I won't have sufficient money to pay for the meds myself any time soon. #MutualAid #MedicalAid #MedMastodon
