On this day in 1985 Strawberry Switchblade were cover stars of Melody Maker. After being on the front of Smash Hits a month earlier, this was only the second time they graced a cover, & their first in the 'serious' UK weekly music press.

For the cover, the Sabahan artist created a 2.3m x 3m world map covered by 50,000 green-tipped matchsticks.

The green matchsticks symbolising trees were set alight to highlight how climate change can affect and destroy the world."
