@murena Mapping or navigation? What is usually a challenge with Car Navigation based on OSM is the routing based on current traffic information .. Like in the former #Magicearth or in #nunav

I've had enough of #TomTom's outdated maps and uninstalled both TomTom Go Expert and (otherwise great) #Sygic. It's #MagicEarth for long-distance and potentially congested routes and #OsmAnd for rural/minor roads.

J'aimais bien #magicearth mais leur nouvelle interface et l'abonnement m'ont poussés a chercher autre chose (meme si je ne sais pas ce que vaut la version gratuite de leur nouvelle mouture).
Je ne suis pas méga fan de OSM
Organic maps galère avec ma geoloc des que je sors de la ville

Bref, je ne trouve pas grand chose.

#MagicEarth navigation, that I used for years and endorsed, has just updated on my phone. It seems they changed interface (in a good way, I admit), and the app is now “freemium”; among the paid (subscription-only) options are offline maps.

Okay, I get it, every company needs money. And I'd gladly pay to get live traffic info, 3D view, Android Auto integration… but maps? You must be joking, guys. You have the maps literally from me and other #OpenStreetMap contributors. What we gave you, you're now trying to sell back to us. No way.

I thought I would try playing with #MagicEarth but it seems resolutely silent. Is that just because the free version doesn't do speech or do I need to tweak something else? (I am on CalyxOS so I could easily be missing something).

idly browsing that eu-alternatives list and stumbled over #magicearth, are people using this? seems real nice, it even has configurable bike navigation and local bus routing.

Selbstverständlich kenne ich den Blog und beziehe zahlreiche Empfehlungen daraus. #fdroid ist mittlerweile meine bevorzugte Quelle für Anwendungen. Wenn eine gewünschte Anwendung dort nicht zu haben ist, verzichte ich lieber darauf.

OSMAnd hatte ich mal ausprobiert zur LKW-Navigation. Meines Empfinden nach ist #MagicEarth dafür besser. Leider hat das neueste Update die App verschlimmbessert.

I would like to install magic earth from the sandboxed Play Store inside my private space.

Reason being, that apparently only the Play Store version works on android auto.

Though, I cant manage to get it installed.

The Play Store downloads the app, and shows the dialog box "Install this app" with the network permission checkbox. But when I tap on "Install", I get the notification that the app could not be installed.

I tried to install other random apps, with no issue. So it doesn't seem to be a general issue.

I marked the Play Store app as a source for apps and allowed access to the Android/obb folder.

I stopped the Play Store, cleared the cache and data, but still the same issue.

Anybody knows how to fix this?

Okay but Plus Codes are REALLY handy for using open-source GPS's like Organic Maps and OsmAnd~ ?? Wish I knew about that trick sooner hahaha
