Edit: I think I have it sorted. It is a browser thing.
Browser updates meant I couldn't find the setting.
Thank you.

Linux Cinnamon advice please.

When I download a document, it default saves to the Downloads folder.

Is there a way to have it ask where I want a file to be be saved so I can save it into the correct folder?

Sometimes a download has such a silly name that once in the Downloads folder I can't find it.

Thank you.

@peterainbow
You can use #MakersHelp and the #Repair tags for questions.
#RepairCafe will also attract interested folks who may have answers too.

I have found that usually on Henrys it is the board that fails, and often there is no indication without removing components to test, so I just swap the board, if all else seems ok.

A few times I have just bypassed the board completely if the low power option isn't desired.

So, how and where do I migrate my website now that WordPress is tainted?
Thank you.

Edit: Thank you for the replies. It seems I don't enough about what I don't know to be able to do anything about this myself. So probably best to leave it for the time being.

Thank you all anyway.

Windows 10 Dell Laptop.
Since some recent updates I have found that when I open a window it is opened reduced and in some random spot on the screen.

I always want new windows open maximised, and that is what it used to do. It would also leave reduced windows where I last put them, eg. two windows side by side.

Is there a way to get it to open windows maximised everytime, or in the same reduced position as previously opened, again?

Thank you.

Edit: I am off to work now so might not see responses until this evening. Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know what these crimpers are for?
Thank you.

Edit: I know what the tool is, but I was wondering about this jaw set and their specific use/purpose.
Thank you.

Edit 2:
Got it! Thanks to @jarkman 👍

The working end of a ratchet crimper, commonly used for setting crimp terminals on to electrical wires.
The jaws on this one seems to be a tooth pressing into a V notch.
It has markings that say 0.5°-4° on each side of the V notch.

If I was to buy a drone for filming some video, what do I need to know, and what should I look for or avoid?

I want to be able to film some of the reroofing work on our house, and also have a better look at potential work without having to put up long ladders first.

Later on, when we start looking for a place in Wales I want to have a good overhead look at the land (I might have replaced 'My First Drone' by then).

Are the EBay ones that are sub £50 too cheap? Or a good 'disposable' learning curve?

What specs might I be looking at (and what do they mean)?

What sort of 'dumb questions' should I research first? I don't know what I don't know.

If you have a recommendation that would be great.

Thank you.

This is a long shot, but why not try. Do you have a 2021 Home Depot Rotten Patch Man-Eating Plant? Does the jaw work? I just took mine out of storage and set it up but the jaw isn't moving anymore, and I don't really know what to do. If I only plug in the head, and turn the sound all the way down I can hear the motor in the head moving, but it's not moving the jaw.

Do any of you electronics people have a good storage solution for ICs? My collection is starting to get a little unwieldy in random tubes dotted around...

Do I know anyone that knows anyone that knows about spray paint stencils? Specifically: what's the best material to use for them when stencilling not very flat surfaces

I'm just starting to research this, but does anyone have a good technique for joining the top and bottom of a 3D printed enclosure?

Ideally, it would be strong enough based on friction to not require glue. I don't really want screws, and I'm not sure the sides are thick enough for some kind of snap fitting...

I'm minded to try castellations that push-fit and link together.

Anyone know if there is something like the KiCAD ruler for measuring distances in OpenSCAD?

I often want to double check I've got my maths right, so being able to select a point and "measure" would be really handy...

But googling is not really turning up anything other than requests for the feature or a comment that it already has it without saying how to do it!

using the adafruit IRRemote #circuitPython library on #raspberrypi, (after getting the oled working!), and after working out how to deinit so it doesn't need a reboot between runs (not in the examples!) it is returning NOTHING. I've tried several ditdots and none of them seem to create any signal.
I'm using this receiver. I do have spares but stupidly it's the only thing I've put on the board that can't be swapped out easily.

Any ideas beyond "try another"? #makersHour #makersHelp

#makershelp turns out the answer is... WD40. Sprayed a little bit on some kitchen towel and wiped the pallete knife on it every now and then. Got some nice results, too!

#makershelp What's the best way to stop wood filler from sticking to the pallette knife? Using a metal one. Tried Google, which just isn't very good anymore.

I want to 3d print some button housings for tactile switches - the simple toggle/push buttons we see everywhere in electronics kits...

I actually eventually want to design something for one of those cheap matrix setups to go in.

So this morning I'm off to see what I can find, but if anyone already has an design that they can recommend with a good mechanism and mountings I could use as a starting point, I'd be very interested in hearing about it :)

@trcwm @int21h
Hmm I'm still not having much luck with these connectors.

They are similar to JST XH, but are slightly slimmer, appear to have flat pins and a 2.50mm pitch rather than the "2.5 or 2.54 - what's 0.04mm between friends" pitch that seems to be the meaning of 2.5 when searching catalogues.

It would seem that the connector is used on many DX synths from the time, but looking in various service manuals and forums, I've yet to find a mention of it by name...

Close up photo of a 14-pin JST-XH like shrouded set of pins showing them as flat rather than square in profile.Photo of the JST XH like plug showing the hole spacing is just shy of fully lining up with the pin headers on an Arduino nano supporting the idea that they are 2.50mm rather than 2.54mm.

So I think I'm starting to understand where my limitations are in the Dexed calculating end and what are at the Pico audio (I2S/PIO)end...

But can anyone explain what take_audio_buffer blocks on if blocking=true (as in the examples)...?

SInce upgrading to KiCad 7, I've noticed the Gerber file viewer seems to load edge cuts first, whereas my previous version loaded them last.

Not a big deal, but you get used to things being in a certain place you know!? (and with a specific colour)...

Anyone know if it is possible to change the ordering in the viewer? Colours I know how to change :)
