In the Meiji Jingu garden is an iris bed, set in a water fed marsh/mud, with #Japanese pond #turtles swimming around in the channels that delimit the plantings. The #iris garden cost 3€ to enter, which is just to help pay the upkeep of that particular area of the park. The irises flower in June, and were quite simply magnificent. #Butterflies and #dragonflies were flitting and fluttering around. A real gem in my book. We also went and visited a well that was captured in the #Edo period, and a small lake brimming with water lilies.

Went to Meiji Park today, and the Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine, and we were very grateful for the shade offered by the woodland that surrounds it. At the shrine, in the inner courtyard, there was a display of twenty or so bonsai trees of varying ages. The oldest one there appeared to be this specimen, a mere 300 years old! This was the first time I'd seen so many bonsai trees together in one place. If you are interested in getting away from the urban bustle of #Harakuju, then Meiji Jingu is the place to go.

Memories of last month's visit to #Tokyo. While the trip was pretty much ruined by me getting the flu (boooh!), I still have some lovely memories.

Especially walking through Yoyogi Park on my way down to Shibuya. I was so lucky with the weather! ☀️

This is the Meiji Jingu Ichino Torii at the Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine. It was ridiculously hot outside when I was there.

I took this at the Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine in Shibuya. I saw this type of elevated threshold a lot when I was in China. Two things I was told were that it is disrespectful to step on it and that it is there to keep out evil spirits.

I took this at the Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine in Shibuya. Tokyo was super hot that day, and I was guzzling Pocari Sweat to get through the shrine's grounds.

A shinto gate (Torii) at one of my favorite Shinto Shrines in the world, Tokyo Meiji Jingu. I've been there several times and on different occasions and it's always amazing.

Visitors to Tokyo's Meiji Jingu admire a colourful field of irises on a bright spring day. Purple and pale white irises populate a field stretching between tall robust-looking stands of trees. On our right, a pair of female figures pause on a footpath to look out over the flowers; on our left, an adult male and an adult female figure walk through the flowers, together with a young female child. Beyond the field, other visitors admire the flowers or walk along another footpath, while a pair of figures pauses beneath a small covered pavilion tucked in amongst the trees. Above, two birds cross a bright blue sky.
