I had the opportunity to attend the The School Safety Town Hall hosted by #broward county public schools to discuss clear backpacks, school uniforms and metal detectors.
I was inspired by all of the community members that came out to speak, especially the students who spent a night of their summer vacation at the meeting to make their voices heard. This gives me hope for the future.

Bought a metal detector to take to the beach and to poke around my yard. Never had one before. Any tips/tricks/advice?
My immediate reaction is that it's a yad, a pointer for reading Torah so that your finger doesn't get oils or dirt on the scroll. But how did it get to South Devon? The Jewish community didn't re-establish itself in England until Cromwell, so if this is late-16th-early-17th century, it was made elsewhere and brought back.
I've tried to find contact information for Brian Read in the hopes of learning more about this find, but no luck so far. If anyone knows him / can pass this on, or has any information about this piece, please get in touch!

I had a cop in my high school. #NewJersey. 1991-1995. We had a choice - #MetalDetectors or a cop. The cop was a member of the township force, so probably was cheaper than the metal detector. Did school get safer? No. Truthfully, I never felt in danger there, but there were fights. I was used to them. I was in one once. I lost. Do I think those kids, or I, should have been arrested? Hell no! Could a teacher have been hurt? Certainly. Is that bad? Certainly.
