I turn 50 next year, so I thought I'd get a head start on my midlife crises. Unfortunately I don't have a driver license and therefor no car I can turn in for a younger, sleeker, sportier model. I'm also single, so I don't have a partner I can turn in for a younger, sleeker, sportier model. So I, a collecter of 80s vinyl, did the next best thing and ordered 16 records with a release date of no earlier than 2010 last night.

"You Can Call Me Al" is a song by American singer-songwriter #PaulSimon. It was the #leadSingle from his seventh studio album, #Graceland (1986), released on #WarnerBrosRecords. Written by Simon, its lyrics follow an individual seemingly experiencing a #midlifeCrisis. Its lyrics were partially inspired by Simon's trip to #SouthAfrica and experience with its culture. I now understand what a ‘mid life crisis’ means (no it’s not just for men) and it is not a crisis at all.

It is a reawakening of dreams and goals from our younger years, before they were socialised out of us.

We are at an age where our kids are grown, and we are able to persue the interests we had to put to bed 20+ years ago because they didn’t fit in with what society believed a parent should be.

I was a singer in rock bands and had many tattoos planned but that apparently made me wreck less and irresponsible.

I’m now going back to that at age 50 and calling it a mid life awakening!!!

I'm in the process of #midlifecrisis though I am way past the age of what will prove to be my mid-life.

I wonder how many people's lives turn out as they expected?

An impetuous decision in my early thirties turned my life upside down. I became so bogged down by the consequences, I didn't plan for the long term, just 'survived' each day. Now, so many years later, I don't recognise myself.
