THE BEACH BOYS AND TRUMP'S MENTAL HEALTH

A video on Trump's social media feed posted at 7:15 tonight recalled Senator John McCain's 2007 call to “bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, homb Iran” to the tune of the Beach Boys’ “Barbara Ann.” Trump's version used McCdin's “bomb Iran” chorus but was longer and had visual imagery of planes dropping bombs. In Trump’s version, the soundtrack to the video used the melody of Barbara Ann to say things like: “went to a mosque, gonna throw some rocks, tell the ayatollah gonna put you in a box,” and “old Uncle Sam, getting pretty hot, gonna turn Iran into a parking lot.”

It is a truism that, like other authoritarians, Trump tries only to appeal to his supporters, but | confess this video, from the president of the United States, left me aghast. It seems to me long past time to question the 79-year-old president’s mental health.

The image depicts a vast urban landscape, likely captured in the late 19th or early 20th century. Dominating the skyline is an expansive fortified complex with multiple minarets and domes, indicative of Islamic architecture. This could be identified as part of Cairo's historical citadel, known for its blend of ancient fortifications and significant religious buildings.

The cityscape includes a mix of dense urban structures, showcasing various architectural styles from different periods. Some buildings appear older, possibly centuries old with exposed brickwork and smaller domes, while others show more modern construction techniques.

The coloration suggests the image might be an original photograph or a print made on tinted paper, common in photographic prints during that era. The sky is clear blue above the city, hinting at good weather conditions when the photo was taken.

In terms of geographical and historical context, this landscape corresponds to Cairo's Mokattam district as referenced by "Vieux Caire" (Old Cairo), which holds significant archaeological sites like the ancient village of Babylon. The caption also mentions Zürich: Photoglob Company, indicating that this image may be part of a series created or distributed in Switzerland during the period mentioned.

Given these details, it's plausible to deduce that the photograph captures a perspective from an elevated position overlooking Cairo’s Mokattam district [...]

loc.gov/pictures/item/20176571

The image displays a panoramic view of the cityscape in Cairo, Egypt. It is an old photograph with a sepia tone that adds to its historical aura. The foreground shows a mix of buildings and structures varying from dilapidated remains on one side to well-preserved architectural elements like domes, archways, and minarets indicative of Islamic architecture.

In the midground lies Cairo's dense urban sprawl, densely packed with smaller houses or tenements that are typical for an old city. Among these residential buildings stand prominent historical structures such as mosques featuring distinctive Islamic features like pointed arches in windows, domes, and graceful minarets rising into a partly cloudy sky.

The background is dominated by the Citadel of Saladin (Citadel Hill), which overlooks much of Cairo's urban expanse. Visible are parts of its fortifications with walls that extend across what appears to be an arid landscape hinting at Egypt's desert proximity. The presence of smoke or steam from a chimney amidst these structures adds a dynamic element, suggesting life and activity within the city.

The overall composition suggests this photograph was taken for educational or documentary purposes, capturing not just Cairo but also offering insights into its historical layers as it stood around the turn of the 20th century.

The image displays a panoramic view of an expansive cityscape, with notable historical and architectural landmarks such as pyramids in the distance. In the foreground are rocky outcrops that provide a vantage point for viewing the scene below. The middle ground is dominated by dense clusters of buildings with flat rooftops, indicative of traditional Islamic architecture found in Cairo, Egypt. Prominent structures include mosques characterized by their dome-shaped roofs and minarets reaching into the sky.

The background showcases wide-open sandy plains extending to a horizon under a clear blue sky, suggesting an arid climate typical for this region. The overall color palette is earthy with shades of brown dominating due to sandstone buildings and the desert landscape behind them. A caption at the bottom indicates that the photograph was taken in "Vieux Caire," which translates from French as Old Cairo—a historic district known for its ancient heritage.

This image captures a moment in time, likely around 1905 given the historical context of Photoglob Company's production and photographic techniques used during this period. It serves not only as an artistic representation but also offers valuable insight into Egypt's rich history, architecture, and urban development at that era.
