Day One on Farcaster – First Gate, Already Locked (Part 2)
First attempt stepping into decentralised social media.
First digital border. Already a locked gate.
This is what leaving the system actually feels like.
Music / CDs / everything in the bio.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the reason that most people don't want digital ID in the UK is that fundamentally there is little trust in the government. And when the other people get in, all the infrastructure will be in place, and once they're in there is nothing stopping them from doing whatever they want. Parliament can act how it wants with little to no legal recourse. I don't know how that compares with other countries. #NoDigitalID
The fight for freedom will never never be over. Listen to this 👇🏼 Stay noncompliant! #NodigitalID #stayloud
#nodigitalID Stay noncompliant!
If it was for the benefit of the people, the people would have asked for it. If it benefited the people, the government wouldn't want it.

“The Labour government’s favourite Digital ID scheme was hacked”
by Willem Moore in The Canary @thecanaryuk @UKLabour @uk_politics
As part of its efforts to sell Digital ID to the public, the UK government has frequently drawn attention to Estonia. [..] As reported by the Record in 2021, a hacker breached Estonia’s systems. By exploiting a vulnerability”

I'm not usually one to say I told you so, but I did predict the form of the government response to the digital ID petition.
I predicted "a jaded rehash of the policy that culminated in the need for the petition", and that is precisely what we got.
Oh, and item one on the list of purported benefits - tackling illegal immigration.
How's that going to work then?
Over 2 million British citizens and UK residents have now signed this petition, have you signed it yet (and contacted your MP)?

As well as the government petition, the Lib Dems have one #NoDigitalID
I was in a few womens clothes stores this morning. At one, a customers was asking about a garment in another colour than was out in the store.
Shop assistant: "We can order it in?"
Customer: "Oh, thank you, when?"
"Not sure but we'll send you an email so you can come and collect it."
"I don't do email or anything like that."
The customer was only a few years older than myself but had managed to avoid the 'essential' web so far.
At a minimum she'll have a NINo and an NHS number but probably doesn't know either. My guess is that she won't be unique.
Time to get vocal. This petition has well over 500,000 signatures already. If you're in the UK and don't want a compulsory digital ID you can add your name:

I don’t have too much of a problem with •physical• ID cards, as an improvement on the mess of passport + driving licence + utility bills hassle we all have to suffer (and easier to carry for EU travel (ah, oops)).
But this whole mandatory smartphone app tied into numerous databases idea, slurping who knows what sorts of data about you and sending it who knows where, and at risk of hacking? Absolutely no way!
Vietnam closes 86 Million untouched bank accounts over biometric ID Rules 👇🧐⚠️ (if there's an antecedent of a digital totalitarianism, it may spread to other countries and must be avoided.)

It will come if we don't say no. Once it's in, there will be no taking it back.
