Ich hab das gleich gemacht und zum Anstoß genommen, ENDLICH das seit Jahren ungenutzte #facebook dauerhaft zu löschen. Danke!

One final dark pattern while closing my LinkedIn account

The final close account dialog on LinkedIn requires that you enter your password. Below the password field is a checkbox that says "Unsubscribe me from LinkedIn email communications, including invitations." The checkbox is unchecked by default.

"As AI becomes more embedded in our lives, the issue isn’t just about whether it works. It’s about whether we have the right to decide how much of it we want in our lives. The freedom to choose, to opt out, is essential to preserving our autonomy in the digital age."

If a platform requires you scan your eyeball as a proof of humanity to keep your account, you do not have to do it.

You do have a choice.

You can, and you should, say no.

Thanks to @headfirstonly for pointing out ☝️ that Soundcloud changed their T&C to allow them to harvest users' music for AI training. Which should be illegal.

I'm gone. (Seems like I'm gone from a LOT of online places lately.)

The end of a delete account dialog at Soundcloud. I confirm that I want to delete my account for reason "other." The reason:

"You sneaked in a 'we have permission to train our AI on your music' clause. Shame."

"The smartest strategy in a downturn? Say no to the narrative!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

Your growth story begins the moment you decide not to take part in someone else’s pessimism.

An economic downturn? Just refuse to participate! In an era of panic, the boldest act is to opt out of the fear. The future doesn’t belong to the cautious—it belongs to the courageous.

With that thought in mind, know this - winners don’t wait. They create.

Recessions don’t kill opportunity. Mindsets do. The companies that shape tomorrow are the ones inventing it today—despite the headlines. That's why the smartest strategy is to 'just say no' to the narrative. After all, if everyone’s playing defense, the game is yours to win on offense. The path to growth starts with rejecting the crowd’s caution!

You can't shrink your way to tomorrow. The organizations that pull back on the initiative to move forward will stay back. Those that move forward now are the ones we’ll be talking about tomorrow. That being the case, mindset is the first move. A downturn is a test of belief.

That's why one of the first things you can do is to dance in the rain. Make the best of a bad situation. Do what you can do despite trying circumstances. Stay focused on your goals despite the fuzziness that surrounds you.

Opting out.

To opt out is to choose not to participate in something.

Right now, the conventional wisdom – the wisdom of crowds – always seems to be that in a period of economic uncertainty or a downturn, the best thing to do is to hunker down, scale back, slow down, take it easy, be cautious, reduce spending, defer our actions, wait it out, take things slow, put things on pause.

And that is just plain, well, the wrong thing to do! History tells us so – because those who choose to opt out of conventional wisdom are those who win.
In recent years, we've seen what happens when some choose not to participate in a recession, economic downturn, or whatever we want to call a period of economic uncertainty. They have determined that it's important to focus on the long-term goal, not the short-term volatility.

What we know from previous downturns is this: those who chose to opt out experienced growth during the downturn that others did not see. Not only that, but their rate of growth after the downturn was greater than those who chose the traditional path of cutting back. Bottom line: long-term winners are those who chose not to participate in a downturn!

It seems simple but is pretty critical – when uncertainty stares you in the face, double down on innovation and transformation, and refocus on the long-term view!

"It’s unclear to me how much is getting through to opt-out voters, but some of the NYT’s most recent focus groups with Trump voters indicate that it’s not nearly enough."

To my ear, this sounds to me like a description of opt-out voters as essentially pro-Republican and pro-Trump. They don't care enough to oppose or even admit the singular harms the Trump regime is bringing us, which is another way of saying they're on board with those harms.

But as the spectacular failures of the Trump regime become more apparent, the opt-out voters appear not to be motivated to enage or to care:

"We’re 100ish days into the Trump Regime, and there’s no going back. Trump’s approval rating is at a historic low, but not as low as it should be given the damage he’s done. He’s losing ground, but again, the drops aren’t that dramatic."

Melissa Ryan discusses the "opt-out" voters, a phrase coined by Rob Flaherty to describe a group of voters who have opted out of participation in political life. Flaherty thinks these voters decided the 2024 election.

These voters are ostensibly neither Democratic-leaning or Republican-leaning. They claim to have decided just not to care.

One of the latest updates of Zoom automatically enabled the "AI Companion" on meetings you create. It informs you of this in a brief, easily missed pop-up (appearing for <5 seconds when the meeting loads), and does transcription and summary in the background.

You can turn it off every meeting, but I haven't yet found a way to prevent it from starting in the first place (but haven't dug too much into it, will update if I do).
