ACE has taken down the MKVCinemas streaming piracy network, along with 25 supporting domains used by millions over the past two years. The same action dismantled a file-cloning tool that distributed media from concealed cloud repositories into personal cloud drives.

This follows a series of coordinated operations involving Europol, ACE, DAZN, and other enforcement partners targeting illicit IPTV and media distribution networks.

What technical vectors do you think will become the next priority for investigators?

Americans!

If the massive number of internet censorship bills already introduced wasn't enough, Lindsey Graham, along with a handful of co-sponsers (Durbin, Blumenthal, Whitehouse, Klobucher, and Hawley), intends to reintroduce his bill to sunset Section 230 next week.

Section 230 is what allows many websites to exist at all. If this bill passes, many smaller websites will be forced to shut down, and mainstream platforms will either abandon moderation altogether or remove anything even vaguely controversial to avoid lawsuits.

Regular people would be unable to post on sites that take the latter approach (acting as publishers) and would have their voices drowned out by scams and hate speech on sites that take former approach (abandon moderation entirely).

Getting rid of Section 230 would not result in more free speech, it would not "hold Big Tech accountable," or whatever else people like Graham and these co-sponsers say repealing Section 230 would accomplish.

Please call your Senators and Representatives!

Signal’s reputation for secure messaging rests on strong E2EE using the open-source Signal Protocol 🔐

The app collects minimal metadata, but concerns remain around SGX reliance, AWS hosting, and past CDN-based deanonymization research 🛰️
Useful, but not flawless, for privacy-focused users ⚖️

Age-verification laws now cover half the US, requiring IDs or face scans to access “harmful” content 📄

Advocates warn these mandates expand surveillance, increase breach risks, and could enable censorship under bills like KOSA ⚠️

Groups like @fightforthefuture.org are pushing for safer alternatives 🛡️

Amazon says data is encrypted, but past law-enforcement partnerships and security issues raise concerns about biometric handling 🔒

The online world is a space of resistance: walking together toward 25N

Every November 25th, we join a day that reminds us that the fight against all forms of violence against women remains urgent. In a context where certain discourses seek to minimize or roll back fundamental achievements, feminist, women’s, and diversity organizations

I know we still have time to oppose these bills, but after that House markup session, it really did feel like all our calls and such had little effect on how they voted. Any amount of good news was sparse.

While I think it's unlikely they'll ram these bills through the full committee before Holiday recess, they could surprise us.

Asimov called it Multivac. Nault called it RePHleX. In Omniscient, it’s just ‘the System.’

Whatever you call it, the data the U.S. now wants from everyone who crosses its borders is perfect feedstock for an all-seeing, all-knowing AI — one that will ultimately serve only those who can afford the privilege.

Sharing a recent article that lists a lot of reasons to keep regulation around identity on the internet in check (and a real-world solution)

Sometimes you hit a gem of an article that gives much more than the title suggests: eff.org/deeplinks/2025/12/10-n

The main topic is age verification on the internet, but the content shows that it’s only the tip of the iceberg. It’s a nice collection of reasons to be *very* careful with this kind of regulation, which starts from a worthy common goal (protecting children), and can end up hurting more people and threatening democracy itself.

Great #DSA report by @bitsoffreedom about how #Snapchat manipulates its users through notifications:

"From 109 notifications we categorized 39 as misleading." They contained "false information (e.g., “check out this post from someone you follow”—even though we weren't following anyone), resembled a personal message from other users, or were incorrectly labeled as being “time-sensitive”."

One thing I’ve never quite understood is the reluctance of certain doctors to provide medical imaging to patients in a digital format.

As someone with interests in photography, programming, data, and my own health, I find the RAW-like DICOM image file format fascinating. So, even if it comes on a CD-R and costs 2500 JPY, I always try to get my own medial imagery whenever possible. (These are also extremely helpful to have in advance if an issue recurs and you need to show the progression to a new clinic.)

I’ve had good luck getting endoscopy, X-ray, and MRI data over the years, but the doctor at the colonoscopy clinic today was a hard no. They’ll only provide the photos they took of the inside of my own body to another doctor, not to me, myself, the subject in question.

(They did provide a printout of a few key moments for my reference. Why this is available when the actual image data is not remains a mystery to me.)

The UK wants to implement facial recognition technology in certain cities.

Our biometric data will be turned into another dataset governed by someone else. Those datasets will be reused in ways that weren’t part of the original plan.

You won’t be able to reset it, to opt out. What will happen what those systems produce errors, and how will they spread?
