#Ostomy

I was just reminded that today it is two years ago I left the hospital following a bladder removal and receiving my #ostomy.

I could barely walk at the time, and had no idea if I could ever get used to that bag on my stomach.

It was not two weeks ago that during a 6km “quick” walk, my wife had to ask if I could please walk a little slower as she had a hard time keeping up 🫣
The bag and taking care of the ostomy is so natural now, I don’t even think about it!

Current status: Relaxing by the window, sipping stool softener, and wearing a dress. Truly living the dream.

This week's adventure is recovering from a twofer surgery (number 9 since 2020), to repair some consequences of the last #cancer surgery in Feb/2024.

The softball size hernia and tennis ball size hydroseal I have been living with for the last year-ish seem to be on the mend ("your tummy is flat again!" -my lovely bride).

Oscar (my #ostomy), is back to making inappropriate noises and so the docs are advancing me to semi-solid foods today. After the ileus (and subsequent NG tube), last time I pushed back on the team and slowed them down to avoid a repeat.

Today's goal is to shower with actual warm water - very exciting.

If things continue as they have, Frankie the Foley should come out tomorrow and home Tuesday to start mentally and physically preparing for three weeks of radiation to try and shrink the pelvic tumors first week of July.

As we head into my birthday tomorrow, I feel it’s fitting to share that I have a featured article in the Ostomy Canada Society magazine’s edition!

I was asked to share my & experience with my fellow Canadian . Without my , I would not be alive to see 49. I might now have lived to see 41 even. ...

I’ve discovered “intimate comedy night” may be the most anxiety-inducing social activity with IBD. Luckily, Helen Hong had us laughing from minute one, and got intimate with her own cancer story

Happy New Year, 2023 was good to me, health-wise. I pray 2024 may be good for you, especially if you suffer from chronic health issues!

ANOTHER Hollister urostomy pouch splitting open near the ring, with over a day of necessary usage left! (I need them to last a week & change on Sunday.) I used these for literally years without problems but this past year they keep tearing apart at the seal in the exact same manner. Different lots! Different boxes! Why is this happening all of a sudden? Why are Hollister pouches suddenly such sh*t? I have enough trouble just getting my medical supplier to fill my orders or else buy out of pocket on Amazon, I can't request replacements over & over & over. 😞 #ostomy
