Good morning Fine Fedi Folk 💕 I am now on leave for three glorious weeks - squee again! 😊. I've just put Ziggy in for her breakfast, including her meds mash in her bowl, as she's still refusing to take it off the spoon. At least I know she's eating it as I can watch her chomping it with gusto and saying "Good!" as she does so. Grant is having the same trouble with baby food on his parrot mornings so has also had to revert to mash, which is easier to monitor in her food bowl. If I remember correctly, we had this same issue last year around this time, so I'm wondering if it's some weird parrot seasonal thing. She is very hormonal at the moment right enough 🤔

Cleaning Jadie's cage this morning I heard an old man whispering to me from the shadows, "Hello girl girl". 😱 Her previous owner was an old man, and sometimes she mimics his voice, which is very creepy in the gloom of early morning I can tell you!

Plans for today are Parrot Kitchen this morning - chop, broth mix and quinoa to sort out - and then crochet later. I'm almost finished the second pre-Xmas order so I can post that tomorrow. One more to go after that and then I'm shutting shop till January so I can chill and work on the competition toy and play lots of BG3 🙂

Have a lovely day, whatever you get up to 🤗

Good morning Fine Fedi Friends 💕 I'm playing Upstairs Ninja again today as all is quiet downstairs after some initial indignant screeching by Ziggy, totally unhappy with the speed of the breakfast service 😊

I've actually been awake for a bit, but I dived right into work to try to spin some of the many plates that are up there on little sticks at the moment. You would think that things would wind down at this time of year, but I have yet to experience that in my job 🥴

So, I'm going to jump right back in and hopefully save some plates from crashing to the floor!

Have a lovely day, whatever you get up to 🤗

I think I'll probably be posting primarily art here, so what better place to start than with the painting I put as my first ever profile picture?

Lens-Artists Challenge #376: Wings

This week it’s Beth’s turn to host the Challenge, and she gets straight to the point: ‘I am challenging you to feature anything with wings‘. It’s a little dull and miserable around here at the moment, and even the eagle that soars over Oiã and the woods behind our house is staying in the warm, so instead I’ve got a few winged creatures from our trip to the Maldives in October.

The place where we stay is a small island resort. It’s actually teeming with wildlife, even if the most obvious signs are the humans sunbathing on the beach, paddling or snorkeling in the sea (or lounging around the several bars on the island). There’s a black bird, that makes an unholy high-pitched scream, which I always thought were the bats that fly around the island. The bats themselves are really elusive, and I’ve never managed a good image, or any image apart from this terrible photo when we came across one feeding in a tree a couple of metres above our heads.

There’s also a white parakeet, known as ‘Snowy’, who frequents a couple of the bars on the island. In the mornings s/he can be found in the Banyan restaurant, perched on the shoulder of a member of staff and eating from the plate of pastries and fruit specially prepared for them. In the afternoon, Snowy can be found in the Lohis bar, being fed by the staff there.

This crane is a bit of a thief. S/he will wander around the Beach Grill, looking for scraps of food, and gobbling down pieces of burger bun thrown at them (specifically burger buns, any meat is ignored). One day we were enjoying our lunch, and the crane was doing their normal patrol, walking slowly around the benches, seeing what people might have. On this day s/he zeroed in on our table, watching as we enjoyed our burger and chips (that’s french fries, just to clarify). Slowly s/he edged closer, and we watched in amusement. Then, s/he jumped up onto the bench next to my partner, paused for a second, then lunged at her plate, defly grabbing the top layer of the burger bun before retreating to safety. All we could do was stare at the crane, then laugh uncontrollably. From then on, whenever we saw the crane hovering around a table, we’d warn the occupants, ‘be careful, that bird will have your lunch.’

It rained a helluva lot during our holiday, though it was warm rain and it didn’t spoil our enjoyment. We would walk around the island, clutching our umbrellas and dodging the puddles, enjoying the vivid greens that the rain-soaked leaves would reveal. One day, ambling back to our little villa, I happened to glance over and spotted this wonderful parrot on the veranda roof of a small building. Like Snowy, I don’t think this parrot was a pet in the strictest term, just an occupant of the island who realised that they had a good thing going mixing with humans.

In the conclusion of her post, Beth asked: ‘When you think of wings do you think of birds, insects, angels and airplanes? Maybe you think of … fantasy beings like dragons and fairies.’ Well, there were dragons on the island too, but sadly they didn’t have wings.

Themes for the Lens-Artists Challenge are posted each Saturday at 12:00 noon EST (which is 4pm, GMT) and anyone who wants to take part can post their images during the week. Good morning Fellow Travellers around the Sun 🌞 I'm up early with the parrots again today and have just put Ziggy in after a morning play session which consisted of her hiding down the side of the couch and playing "Where's Ziggy?" and playing with her beloved huge plastic sword (a little of the action which I captured in the short clip attached). In the foreground on the footstool are the tatty remains of "Bunny Bunny", a little dog toy that was torn to pieces with great gusto years ago, but which Ziggy still likes to throw about the place when she's in the mood 😊

She's gone back to refusing to take her meds again though, both with the baby food and mash, and actively bites my hand when offered the spoon, so I'm having to just add the mash mix to her bowl, where she eats it no bother, but I'd rather have her take it from the spoon where I can make sure she's getting it all. A new plan will need to be hatched! 🧐

More crochet today as I work on the second of now potentially four orders that need to go out in time for Xmas.

Have a lovely day, whatever you get up to 🤗

Good morning everyone 🌞 I am up early with the parrots today and have Ziggy tucked into my left hand, grumbling away contentedly, while.Toby munches loudly and Jadie whispers from the shadows at the back of her cage "Give a kiss" and that she's a "Good girl girl" 😊

I had to slightly adjust one of her ropes just now as it had slipped about a centimetre down and that was preventing her from accessing her flat perch and fresh food. The tiniest change is all it takes to put her off and she wasn't happy about having to step down that wee bit from one rope to another 🤷🏻‍♀️ This is all because, being shut up in a tiny cage in a garage for years, she forgot how to use her wings and has little confidence. She can fly now after three years with us, and is doing it more now, for short hops anyway, but still needs a lot of encouragement wee soul 🥲

Right! Ziggy has demanded to go back to her cage, so it's coffee time!

More crochet on the cards today. I finished one toy yesterday, so I can take on the next order for the lady who is waiting and I'll be back to two again.

Have a lovely day, whatever you get up to 🤗

Good morning you lovely lot 💕 I had a nice long lie today and then I lay a wee bit longer to give Grant some uninterrupted snooze time on the couch, and because it was still dark. I'm just having a quick coffee with the parrots now before starting the crochet schedule for the day. Ziggy is preening and grumbling, Jadie is squealing as she fights with her hobby horse toy and Toby is yelling "Ta!" at me 🙂

Grant is going out later for an Xmas lunch at the golf club with his Mum and sister. I was supposed to go, but I'm really not up for any festive cheer so I'll just crochet and watch bad telly instead.

Have a lovely day, whatever you get up to 🤗

🌏 Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo (Zanda funerea)

The Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo is a large, brownish-black bird with a short crest, distinctive yellow cheek patches, and a yellow tail band. It is distributed across southeastern Australia, including Tasmania, favouring eucalypt woodlands and forests. These cockatoos are diurnal, social, and often noisy, seen in pairs or flocks. Their flight is characterized by slow, deep wingbeats, and they primarily feed on seeds and wood-boring grubs. Two to three subspecies are recognised. Gemini 3 (Edited)

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)

Fun fact: Their most distinctive sound is a high-pitched, mournful, and drawn-out "kee-ow... kee-ow" call, which is often described as sounding like a rusty gate or a wailing cry. This call can carry over long distances.

Good morning everyone 🌞 I'm up early today with the parrots and have just calmed them down after much panic and consternation, which caused Ziggy to fall off her perch and Toby to raise the roof screeching (my poor, poor neighbours!) and all because a flap of Ziggy 's cover, which I had temporarily piled on top of her cage, fell down while I was cleaning. 🥴 Jadie, I have to say, remained nonplussed and just told me in a whisper from the back of her cage that she was a "Good girl girl" 😊

So begins my non work part of the week, with a dash more excitement than I would like this early on, but at least I now have calm and Ziggy cuddles 🙂

Plans for today are coffee, more coffee, then crochet. I still have two Xmas orders to complete, and a third waiting in the wings, so I'm keen to get them out of the way and then close shop for a while. Then I can finally give the competition toy my full attention during my festive leave. Finishing orders in time for the last Xmas posting dates is always a bit stressful, , and this year I'm finding myself more anxious than normal (no doubt an impact from the life events of the past months) so I will be glad when I'm finally done.

But first, Madame Ziggy would like my full attention, please and thank you! 😁

Here's a photo of the moon I took today.

Good morning everyone 🌻 Another supposed to be longer lie day, but Ziggy had other ideas, so I'm up with much needed coffee trying to wake myself fully so I can get started with work 🥴 Jadie apparently also slipped and panicked and then pooped in her food bowl, so that had to be replaced. Ah the joys of parrots and new cages!

I was hoping to move some things around a bit in their cages yesterday afternoon, but ended up on a long work call instead, but I noticed Jadie couldn't get to her water bowl (long story) so have spent the last half hour trying to rework some stuff to allow her to do so. I think it may also be the reason she slipped earlier.

Right. To work! 🥱

Here's a short clip of Ziggy I took last night to brighten your day 😊

Good morning my Fine Fedi Friends 💕 It is Monday yet again and the 1st of another month. I have work today, but am up early and having a wee cuddle with Ziggy before I get going.

I'm glad to report that she went in to roost no bother at all last night after I set up perches in her new cage in the same positions as the old one. This does mean she can poop in her water dish on that side of the cage, but it's a small inconvenience to come through and check her dish a few times a day until I work out another solution she'll be happy with. She also still has her tatty old preening arch. I think I will need to update it by stealth, piece by piece over time so she doesn't notice the change 😊

It looks like a bit of top rope is now Jadie's favourite day perch and it's over her food bowl so I am going to have to adjust it or we'll be having to empty and refill that bowl multiple times a day too. No matter how much I pre-plan the layout the parrots can always find one spot in bowl poop range that I have missed 😂 She's also not using a new flatter perch I put in for sleeping to give her feet a new surface. I think it's because it's a bit lower than her ropes up there - parrots tend to roost on the highest perch available - so I'll try and move that up and see if she'll make use of it.

Right. Best get ready for work.

Have a lovely day, whatever you get up to 🤗

Good morning Fellow Travellers around the Sun ☀️ I was supposed to have a long lie this morning, but Ziggy had other ideas, contacting calling non stop as soon as she heard Grant and basically ignoring the fact that he was in the room with her, so I gave up and got up.

This is all down to the cage move yesterday. I thought Jadie would be the problem child as she doesn't like any change as you know, but it was Ziggy who really didn't take to the change at all. Despite the fact I had spent hours putting together a new, fluffy preening arch for her, just to get her to settle last night and stop running around on the bottom of the cage like a daftie, I had to dig the old tatty one out of the bag of stuff to throw away and reinstall it.🥴 I don't know how well she slept though, because there was poop on the other side of her cage, away from her sleeping spot.

Then this morning I had to get her out for a long cuddle just to calm her down and she wasn't for going back in again at all, so I had to re-jig the new perches (which I had strategically placed so she wouldn't poop in her water dish now it's on the opposite side of the cage) to put them back into the same arrangement as before. It does mean I am now going to have to check her water dish continually throughout the day, but if it keeps her calm while she adjusts to the new cage then so be it. Parrots eh? 🙃

Plans for today are to break down the old cages and take a trip to the dump and a quick bit of top up shopping on the way back. If there's any time left I'll work on crochet projects thereafter.

But first coffee, and plenty of it! 😊

Have a lovely day, whatever you get up to 🤗

Good morning everyone 🌞 I am up early with the parrots today and have just put Ziggy in for breakfast after a brief cuddle session. She was a lot more interested in getting her medicine mix and then "fwowing the spoon to the fwoor" multiple times, each time telling herself she was a "Good bird!" for doing so ☺️ Then we had to have a sword fight with her huge plastic sword. This entails me holding the sword and moving it a bit while going "Grrr!" and her attacking it with gusto. She really loves that sword. If there is one thing she'll consistently chuck about and play with every evening it's the huge plastic sword. Parrots eh? 🙂

Normally Saturday would be an Ethera and Grognak adventure day in BG3, but the new cages are ready ( I ended up doing them yesterday after all), so today will be the cage flitting day for Ziggy and Jadie instead. We'll get them out early and start the process, because there are a couple of things that need to be transferred to the new cages as well as me having to set up the cage lights again.

We also need to give them time to get used to the new layout so we'll need them to be nice and hungry later on to coax them in. Ziggy's new cage will be the most changed due to the food doors being on opposite sides to her current one, but I fully expect Jadie to be the problem child as the slightest change upsets her. It's going to be a mad day anyway.

Have a lovely day, whatever you get up to 🤗
