A classic CN locomotive of red, white and black bursts through the railside bushes to enter a level crossing. A puff of low cumulus above balances the weight of the locomotive in the image.

Sweet corn, a sign advertises at the gravel entry to a farm store. Another sign offers weekend events for families, including a pumpkin catapult. Lovely day, everything still green.

Cycling at the edge of the CN track though town. It’s a shortcut between the rail station and Job Site brewery, at which point one can catch West Gore for a time-saving diagonal leg up to a northwest exit-the-city point. There are still a few bits of old-school coal in the gravel and hard pack along the rails. Most was long-ago collected and burned in local heating fires of that time, tho.

The entrance to a rail trail wooded area looks remarkably like the entrance to a Devon tunnel this cloudless hot day.

Skidmarks left by mignight ramblers on a quiet stretch of country road point suggestively off to the future. We’re in a valley feeding Trout Creek, a tributary of the Canadian Thames.

An Alberta sky over southwest Ontario. Streaks of cirrus lounging on a dome of blue humbling a farm building in shadow somewhere along a near-distant tree-line just over that spread of gold crop yonder. We’re cycling by this like such scenes are normal around here.

A broad empty paved country road reaching off to a grey barn and red farmhouse opposite a row of single telephone poles. The pavement is mottled, like the blue sky above with its few distant puffs of white. Fields either side of us awaiting harvest.

An old white revival style place of... something... sits at a lonely gravel crossroads, partly shaded by a great green tree. An event must be on, parked cars ring the place.

A retired pale yellow grain terminal sits beside what was once a stop at Monkton, Ontario. We’re at a rest stop here, shaded by a leafy green tree & having an apple. Some nice cumulus is being lifted off behind in the blue.

We’re zipping along an old wagon trail at around 30 km/h, tired from a long ride, but still loving it. It looks like a rail trail; up in the near distance sunlight is illuminating the late-summer yellows and greens along the sides of the trail. The limestone hard-pack of the trail is spattered in late afternoon shadow.

Beyond a foreground of great wooden steel-strapped kegs laying sideways, an open, airy refurbished space with stainless brewer’s vats along the walls, ceiling fans and a few basic wooden tables where patrons may be seen tasting the offerings. It’s nighttime, indoor lighting, hues of cream and tan prevail with salt liquorice accents. The ceiling is darker than the floor, which is unusual in this sort of setting, a deep burgundy-brown as might be seen below decks on a small vessel in which perhaps teak or mahogany has been used overhead.
