Na twee weken dan toch maar een e-mail gestuurd aan de veronderstelde #verwerkingsverantwoordelijke voor de beelden die door deze m.i. onwettig geplaatste camera worden gemaakt. #privacy #camera #pictogram

De afbeelding toont een e-mail met als onderwerp "beveiligingscamera in raam gelijkvloers - Re: Camera". In de mail bedankt de afzender voor de eerdere reactie en legt hij zijn bezorgdheid uit over een bewakingscamera aan een adres in het centrum van Brussel. De camera staat in een raam op het gelijkvloers en filmt naar buiten, mogelijk op straat. Hij verwijst naar de wetgeving die zegt dat dit niet zomaar mag. Een camera mag niet zomaar op de openbare weg gericht zijn, tenzij er uitzonderingen gelden. De plaatsing moet goedgekeurd worden door de gemeente. Ook moet er een pictogram hangen dat mensen waarschuwt voor de camera. De afzender raadt aan om actie te ondernemen en waarschuwt dat niet naleven van de regels kan leiden tot een officiële klacht. Hij sluit af met een vriendelijke groet en zegt binnen 30 dagen een antwoord te verwachten.

Een vraagje over #privacy (wetgeving België/EU). Is het toegelaten dat een persoon of een handelszaak zonder meer een #camera achter zijn raam plaatst en deze naar buiten, naar de straatkant richt? Zie foto. Nergens zag ik het verplichte #pictogram met de wettelijke vermeldingen.

Op de foto zie je een witte beveiligingscamera van het merk EZVIZ. De camera staat binnen achter een raam en is gericht naar buiten. Hij staat op de originele doos van het product. De camera heeft een ronde vorm en een zwart voorpaneel met vier kleine lampjes rond de lens. Er branden drie blauwe lampjes op de camera, wat waarschijnlijk aangeeft dat hij actief is. Op de doos onder de camera staat “Smart Home Camera” en zijn verschillende functies afgebeeld, zoals nachtzicht en weerbestendig ontwerp. De camera en doos staan in een vensterbank. Je ziet ook een stukje van de straat buiten en een weerspiegeling van een persoon in het raam.

You have to love a good #pictogram when you see one. It seems simple, but it takes a very good graphic designer to convey a message with so few lines.

This one is from #Bangkok BTS (elevated city railway).

We have also talked about digitalization, as I understand now how he has constructed all LoCoS shapes and how I should improve mine. He still has a sharp mind and a good eye.
He grew up in a kimono shop owned by his family and was surrounded by Japanese family Crest design. He still owns catalogs, this one has a hundred years old I think.

He invited me to his apartment full of documentation about language systems, pictogram design, and his research on LoCoS when he was working on one of the first courses in the world on pictogram design at Zokei University around 1966. I had to buy a portable scanner to scan his postcard sized archives full of drawings for my own research and only had the time to scan a drop in the ocean.

I had the chance to exchange with him on multiple occasions during this month, listen to his life, and explore his archives together. He was really kind and humble about his career and was always eager to make me discover new things as he did during all his personal life and with his students, even with his current health issues.
