15/06/2025 - A couple of tree species I don't see everyday.

Pacific silver fir - at 33m+ it's the tallest one known in Britain.
Jeffrey's pine - at 45m+ tallest known of its species in Britain.

I have a little app on my phone called 'Arboreal Tree Height'. It's good for a bit of fun measuring the height of trees and easy to use. Worth looking up if you like that sort of thing. (The heights above aren't mine, they are proper laser jobs though my app wasn't too far off these).

15/06/2025 - I love a pinetum! Scone palace near Perth has one and it's a place of wonder. So many big tall trees. We spent the whole day there. The place gets a big bonus point for having names on all the trees, I wish all places did.

This common grackle was gathering nesting material when it heard a territorial call from another grackle. It puffed up and responded, while trying to hold onto the material it had already gathered.
