Excerpt from a new

If those who govern, those who claim to care,
Choose willful blindness as they watch me fall,
Why not complete this torment I must bear?
A kinder end than no response at all.
The noose of neglect grows tighter day by day—
At least speak truth as you all turn away.

Clement Attlee said: “Charity is a cold grey loveless thing. If a rich man wants to help the poor, he should pay his taxes gladly, not dole out money at a whim.” As we hurtle towards 2025, perhaps it is time our society edged towards such progress. Modern Britain should not be run like the final pages of A Christmas Carol, in which Tiny Tim must rely on Scrooge waking up in a good mood to be permitted to live. Donate to a good cause this Christmas, please. But don’t forget the unseasonal truth: every time a charity helps a person find food or clothes, it is a sign of government failure.

The City of Moreton Bay’s recent decision to penalise and criminalise homelessness and vulnerable people for owning pets is a devastating blow to some of our most marginalised community members.

JFC.

My Mac has chosen violence today.

Once poverty has you in your grasp and employers continue to find excuses not to hire disabled people… no way out.

I am sure everything will end up being fantastic.

The image captures a macOS terminal window displaying a software download progress bar, alarmingly estimating an epic wait of "About 213 hours, 26 minutes." Such an outrageous download time suggests there might be some trouble brewing with the user's vintage Mac or internet connection.

Above the progress bar, a file path hints that the user is utilising Homebrew, the beloved package manager for macOS, to tackle the software installation. However, the message below the progress bar raises a red flag, warning that the software could struggle to build from the source. It’s a reminder that building from a source can often be a bumpy ride—buggy and slow. This painted picture underscores the potential hurdles awaiting the user and their aging machine in the software installation journey!

In a land of plenty, to be afflicted with such a malady is naught but a jest worthy of a loblolly boy's tale, as many are left with naught but a dog's portion of gruel to sustain them.

Jim Chalmers that is an out and out lie.

Measures don’t help most in need.

Homelessness is still on the rise.

Pensions and Jobseeker payments well below Henderson poverty line.

People are suffering, some driven to suicide.

You could easily change it, but lack the moral integrity to do so.

Noticeably excluded from this are students who must perform 2440 hours (the most of any other student) of mandatory unpaid placement.

This will do nothing to stop anyway. Means tested and well below the poverty line.

We need, and can, do so much better.

That feeling when you book in some medical appointments when you are broke. They are only one-off gaps, after all.

You are just hoping your clients will pay on time and RE can handle you being in arrears another week longer.

Mehreen Faruqi posted this on Instagram with the comment, "What’s stopping you @albomp?"

I would ask the same of the...

...46 (60.5%) current senate members who benefited from free education.

Other than those representing the Greens, have they ever checked their privilege?

Instagram post by Mehreen Faruqi. It reads:

Labor can wipe student debt & make TAFE & uni free.

But Labor would rather give $600b+ to subs & the wealthy.

As a start, the least the government could do is support the Greens' bill sitting in parliament to scrap indexation & raise the repayment threshold to median wage.

“This place (Brisbane) is growing…we’ll have four million people here.”

But nowhere for any of them to live.

Someone needs some financial planning assistance.

It's known as 'placement poverty' — and it's 'exploiting' a generation of Australian students - ABC News

Not mentioned is the 2,440 hours students are required to undertake. Most often during school breaks.

The Section 8 program, widely regarded as a lifeline for low-income families, remains an elusive dream for them. In 2022, only a fraction of the millions living in poverty in the United States received housing subsidies, highlighting a systemic issue that leaves many behind.

It went something like this:

Blah blah blah, pain relief request rejected, blah blah blah, legislation, blah blah blah.

Real Estate just rang demanding to know why I’m in arrears.

14m in UK living in poverty, of which 6m living in deep poverty. That’s 20% of UK residents below the poverty line.

And it’s getting worse.

Is this the society you want? Me neither.

Another day, another threat of eviction.

I don’t know what more I can do.

Disability pension is not enough to live on. Trying to supplement income but still underemployed.

Physical and mental health all time low. Fine to have a health plan - but when you can’t even afford food and medications…

Email excerpt. It reads:

Hi David,
Thank you for letting us know.
Unfortunately, this does not negate our procedure when it comes to rent arrears.
As a result of no payments and you are now beyond 7 days in arrears a Notice to Remedy Breach will be issued.
Kind regards,
