This wasn’t its original intended goal, though. Back in the early 2010s it was supposed to be an educational tool for students first, not necessarily a go-to for every electronics project imaginable. As such there are a few issues with the platform when being used this way, <a href="https://www.vinthewrench.com/p/chasing-raspberry-pi-power-management" target="_blank">and [Vin] addresses his problems with its power management in his latest project</a>.</p>
<p>[Vin]’s main issue is that, unlike a microcontroller, the Raspberry Pi doesn’t have a deep sleep function. That means that even when the operating system is shut down the computer is still drawing an appreciable amount of current, which will quickly drain some batteries. <a href="https://hackaday.com/2026/01/16/diy-full-stack-farm-automation/">We’ve covered [Vin]’s farm and his use case for the Raspberry Pi in the past</a>, but a quick summary is that these boards are being used in a very rugged environment where utility power isn’t as reliable as he would like.</p>

Finally found the setting in the MinisForum U820 BIOS that tells it to power on after a power failure. Guess what? It is not working.
U820 is both cool and strange at the same time.
I have a Framework 13, and overall I'm very happy with performance, and general stability. But one thing that has really started getting to me is the battery life.
Closing the lid, not having it plugged into power will drain the battery in a day or two (or something like that). I don't get it.
I'm running Fedora (currently 43) and I'm guessing that some of this is likely related to how Linux handles power management.
Has anyone got some experience in ... improving battery life for a FW13 laptop? I would totally love a "module" that could extend battery life because I never feel confident I can go without also bringing a power cable with me kind of defeating the purpose of the laptop.
