Well...I'd like to play the #20Comics game that recently commenced here (courtesy of Dirk Schwieger), but I'm too afraid that each of my picks would just be some issue of PROMETHEA. There are over thirty, you know.

My favorite writer, favorite penciller, and favorite letterer all had teamed up for that project.

In fact, when PROMETHEA came to an end in 2005, that was a big reason why I began to gradually withdraw from the whole medium. I increasingly found it hard to imagine any other graphic novel being as great, from start to finish.

Now, don't get me wrong. I could probably list dozens of other titles—or hundreds of other issues—having roughly similar power. All home runs. Yet, as far as I know, no other complete works in the medium have been grand slams except PROMETHEA.

So its components, cover images and everything, overshadow all the rest; from my perspective. And this would make my use of the above hashtag too repetitive.

This is why I wanted a physical copy of Promethea. Here the four living creatures, depicted in their four elements represent the nature of the character’s plan, starting from will/spirit, through feelings and intellect, through to material conclusion. The associated planets are in the background, and each of the Promethea, already associated with elements and suits, presents a PoV.

I guess I need to start reading #Promethea

#Promethea even features at least one (maybe two, waiting on some backstory) clearly #trans character. I'm so happy about that considering the character is from the 1930's and thusly doesn't really have a concept of what trans is but just decides to keep presenting as female because they don't give a fuck what people think, and the series is from the early 2000s when public tolerance was super low.

#GrantMorrison plays with a lot of the same themes, but he hides them behind abstruse symbolism.

The meaning behind #comics like #Nameless needs a decoder ring for the in crowd to "get it". #Promethea openly invites the reader to understand it.

I finally found a copy of the final volume of #Promethea, #AlanMoore 's psychedelic romp through #Kabbalah

This arc incorporates other elements from the America's Best #Comics line, which I've otherwise never touched.

Honestly, as whacky as the whole magic thing comes across, it's definitely better read as a spiritual framework than as an actual belief system.

#Promethea is an incredible exploration of what an apocalypse is and signifies. It's not just everything blowing up or everyone dying. It's about transcending from the material to the spiritual.
