@mike_k
I don't know, maybe , years of failures, the on-going deaths linked to the (perhaps unlawful) cutting off of benefits, the decades of abuse of children in government care, a public service in which PS lawyers find themselves bullied into participation in unlawful acts, a PS which says "Yes sir, how high?" instead of providing info on limits, really is a dangerous thing, something better not emulated?

Key Robodebt RC recommendations still not implemented two years on

Two years on from the findings of the Robodebt Royal Commission, the Federal Government has still not implemented all of its recommendations, and alarming flaws in the social security system remain. #robodebt

AIUI large changes after Royal Commission reported in 2021.

Are you refering to changes made by etc?

Link has what should now be in place.

(A failure to provide adequate registered nurse hours resulted in a vulnerable parent of mine being stupified, weakened and falling multiple times due to a new medication. So no confidence in facility managers. & doubts about the public servants meant to be ensuring quality. cf .)

"The commissioner, Paul Brereton, said nepotism and cronyism were among the most frequently observed corrupt behaviours reported to the commission."

All of remembering how reluctant Brereton was to see his buddies prosecuted over .

#Robodebt was done without AI. The only heads rolling were those affected. Architects were awarded, promoted, retiring in luxury. Services Australia are embracing AI, and NDIS are already using algorithms. How is it not open slather for AusGov to do whatever they want @jeremynadel8.bsky.social?

We will never know the names of the odious, capricious monsters who bullied #Lattouf for the same reasons we will never see the names of the odious, capricious monsters in the sealed section of the #Robodebt RC.

Even though the reason for sealing that section, criminal prosecution, did not happen.

Rich, powerful, well connected. That's how the system works in #Australia

The Lattouf unfair dismissal case is another reminder we live in a society where access to justice for the average punter is a long, costly, public, damaging and tedious process, full of risk, esp if you have been wronged by the powerful. It changes you.

The powerful? Those moral vacuums engaged in bad-faith harassment, offended at factually accurate reporting about another country?

Why, they are gifted privacy, of course, by a system that applies different standards to the rich and connected. And there will be no consequences for ABC management, naturally.

@adamsteer

The general ill-preparedness of governments is chilling
The , absence of preparedness for pandemic isolation actions, & absence of protection of voters from Rupert Murdoch's pro-Trump brainwashing are just a few examples.

Which combine with systemic failures in communication and ethics leading to the and even to unlawful actions, as found in (and now possibly wider program failures stretching over decades).

#robodebt = Malcolm Turnbull, complete with hiring psychologists for the "nudge" of making people feel shame for being unemployed, therefore greater chance of paying a debt they don't owe. Or a simple case of both guilty? @asherwolf.bsky.social @maximumwelfare.bsky.social @antipovertycentre.org

A nudge in the right direction...

Morrison getting a King’s Birthday Honour is a teachable moment — if you were under any illusions about what power values and rewards, this should sort you out.
It wasn’t an error, or a misunderstanding.

Major General Kathryn Campbell is still an Officer of the Order of Australia — in recognition of "distinguished service to public administration through senior roles with government departments”.

This is how things work.
Asking nicely won’t fix it.

@abcfeeds Our political system is so good at giving each other pats on the back even though the public know they have destroyed lives and in Morrison’s case proudly caused people with mental issues to commit suicide. If you think #albo wasn’t part of this then i have fake federal #icac to sell you. #auspol #robodebt #morrison #albanese #labor #lnp

If Scott Morrison was arrested for his illegal #RoboDebt scheme, if we had more outrage of the Nazi flags being flown on Australian vehicles in Afghanistan, if we had investigated a murderer proactively he may not have won so many awards for "serving" Australia...

... then maybe I would have more hope for Australia.

But I really don't.

Ugh I am once again trying to work out what sense can be made of the OAIC's decision in the Andie Fox case. I am not a fan of Andie's but releasing a dossier on her to the media based on her Centrelink records is not suddenly legal and acceptable secondary use just because the Acting Commissioner thinks Andie should have expected retaliation. I may not be summarising the reasons correctly and that is because *I do not understand them.* It's not so much putting words in Andie's mouth as it is putting thoughts in her head, thoughts she would not have in one million years entertained because we do not live in Soviet-era Russia.

Yet another instance of the APS running in a nonlawful manner.

, the next group of "benefits stopped unlawfully" victims, this failure to follow the law, the years of the Aged Care Quality Commission allowing abuse and neglect to continue - and that's just what come quickly to mind.

It's not fit for purpose.
Putting public servants in an environment where they progress by climbing a corporate ladder is continuing to fail badly.

@HardBeingGreen @Queen1066
I'm thinking nobody knows for sure what the full effects will be.
And the number of people directly impacted will be very small.
(It was 500,000 for .)

And those directly impacted can well afford to be slighlty less well off individually while benefitting from wider improvements to society resulting from their loss.

And demonstrating a preparedness to try new things wrt the gross (outrageous) wealth disparity is a good thing.

Try it and see.
