It’s sprinkling with rain incoming.
Was wandering around downtown Palo Alto and noticed there was a company named Striim. ¿Are we running out of company names?

My brain is constantly making connections. I was riding on Caltrain just south of Sunnyvale Station. We passed a graffito reading "Red Rum". I immediately heard the start of "RED-RUM(夢見るBell Boy)" by The Blankey Jet City in my head. Came home and verified that this was the song I was hearing.

The OSH on Cottle Rd has been closed for nearly seven years. Two months ago, there was news it would finally have some new tenants: a pre-school and a Planet Fitness.
Now there’s an auction sign posted at the property. Does this mean the previous plans have fallen through?
This property has been sitting around empty for too long.
Boater Safety
Dangerous wind speeds can occur with clear skies. Expect near gale force winds and very rough seas this weekend. All mariners should take appropriate safety steps, and small craft operators should avoid exposed waters this weekend. #weather #SFBA #CAwx

Sigh. I just finished cancelling my subscription to the previously excellent Santa Rosa Press Democrat. This is not how I wanted to save some money, but I won't support an Alden-owned paper.
"Alden, which also includes Bay Area papers like the San Jose Mercury News and East Bay Times in its portfolio, has earned a reputation among journalists for buying distressed newspapers and gutting their ranks."
h/t @metagrrrl for sharing the news.
Strong winds along the coast this weekend. NW winds between 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are expected from late Saturday morning through early Sunday morning. #weather #SFBA #CAwx

Oh, wow. Sonoma Media Investments sold to MediaNews -- not to Hearst. My thoughts are with all the staffers and contractors of our local newspapers as they navigate this transition. https://www.petaluma360.com/article/news/the-press-democrat-sale/
And gosh I hope they don't force the awful software they've got running the San Jose Mercury website on us, which Marin IJ appears to use as well. Absolutely horrible UX.
Some flowers from the other farmers market on the San Mateo, California coast — this one in Pacifica vs. my nearby one in Half Moon Bay. Two different online sources identified these as chamomile.
Strong winds are expected this weekend, especially along the coast and in higher elevations. #weather #SFBA #CAwx

Hey, Petaluma! The city is now accepting applications for city boards, committees, and commissions, deadline May 29: https://cityofpetaluma.org/ccbs/
These are great ways to get more involved in your local community and meet other good people who give a damn.
I've served on the Technology Advisory Committee and currently serve on the Library Advisory Board. They've been really edifying experiences. Check out the link and see what's open 👀
Diec got the news last fall that Redtree Partners, which has managed the plaza for about two years, wouldn’t renew his lease even after he offered to pay more rent. He said the management company gave him no reason for the decision, but he suspects it’s because it wants to fill the plaza with more franchise restaurants to attract young people. Chains such as Paris Baguette and Posh Bagel are set to open in the plaza soon near the existing Chipotle, Crumbl Cookies and Baskin-Robbins.

So I read about Public Square, “the anti-woke online marketplace”:
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/publicsquare-trump-critics-boycott-businesses_n_680900d2e4b00850c6839b0b or https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/smallbusiness/website-for-maga-friendly-businesses-backfires-as-people-use-it-for-boycotts/ar-AA1DENVU
And then I went to the website (https://www.publicsquare.com) and did a zip code search to see what “businesses who respect traditional American values” were near me on the coast. Fortunately, I only found three:
- A company providing security guards and bouncers for bars and events
- A residential and commercial financing business (not a big name one)
- A blacksmith
No need to boycott, since these aren’t businesses I’d be using, anyway. We’re mostly very blue around here, so this isn’t a big surprise.
Sharing as much joy as I can manage, in these terrible times. So, here are some gorgeous strawberries from today's Farmers' market. Here in San Francisco. They're super tasty too!
If they taste this good, this early in the season here, they could be simply amazing as the season progresses. Assuming no climate disasters on the crops.
