Jananie has some interesting points in her video here about #Romantasy - she asks why Romantasy is mostly so very straight and white and it often seems that the female protagonists are very bland, cookie cutter characters who resemble the self-inserts that are so popular in #fanfiction. (EDIT: Jananie doesn't critize fanfiction, she just talks about this phenomenon.)
