Annoyingly I can’t find the hose adapter anywhere. Just ordered some generic vacuum hose connectors so hopefully they will fit. #vinyl #shellac #78rpm
Got to love the old school website too 😂
Good to see they are still going strong after 28 years!
If anybody is interested in the EV-1 there is a video demo here.
Help required please. Lend me your ears....
If anybody has a spare 8 minutes I'd love to hear what you think the best sounding of these two are.
The first is a straight recording direct off the turnable with no tweaking at all.

The second has a 12.4KHz Low Pass filter applied.

Thanks!

The box of 78s I was given. They were in an attic for many years, and I guess at some point, another box with put un top.
Lots of broken records, I'd take one out of a sleeve and it would come out in jagged bits. Around 40% are broken. The bits will be given to arty people for art projects.
fugazi, shellac, blonde redhead. $6. 1998. mind was blown.
(can’t sleep, randomly thought about this, had to dig it up to remember what year)
I had just turned 16. skipped school to get tickets. gave extra ticket to some random punk at school (I had just moved to third new high school and had to ask around for fugazi/shellac fans that could drive)…he had an s10 truck that barely got us from flint to detroit and back.
Everybody knows Nirvana but so few people know #Shellac, especially this album. Life is so unjust. The world would be so much better place if all artists of every kind were as uncompromising and true to themselves as #SteveAlbini .

There are a number of types of varnish!
Shellac originated from shell-lac, an emulsion from a type of insect!
"Shellac is a very widely used single-component resin varnish that is alcohol-soluble. It is not used for outdoor surfaces or where it will come into repeated contact with water, such as around a sink or bathtub. The source of shellac resin is a brittle or flaky secretion of the female lac insect, Kerria lacca, found in the forests of Assam and Thailand and harvested from the bark of the trees where she deposits it to provide a sticky hold on the trunk."
Shellac is the primary binder in india inks. (This name being a misnomer, a silk road era sourcing nomenclature of a product which originated from china. Known in other places as 'chinese ink.')
Non toxic india inks are colloquially considered safe to use for tattooing! Is it true? How many tattoos contain bugs resin?
Can you eat shellac?
You can eat most things if you try!
...but generally, it is not great to eat varnishes.
Awaiting the rain again with Shellac, Terraform. A little loud this morning but with good cause since this record is so much fun.

A long shot I know, and the way my luck’s been running recently I’m definitely not building my hopes up!
I wondered if any fellow Mastodonians might possibly have a couple of 78rpm record sleeves like this stored away and they’re willing to part with them? It’s the sleeves I’m after really, not the records. If you have any, could you possibly let me know as I’m more than willing to buy them. Thank you!

Long live Steve Albini.
First time in a LONG time that I’ve spun this huge, nasty, pummeling classic from front to back.
Essential.

At Action Park is an unreasonably good album. I'm well overdue for another stretch of obsessive replays until I don't want to hear it again for the next one to five years.
