Medium shot of Indigenous weaving piece hanging taking up the center of the frame. The top of the hanging is suspended by twine from a gray metal pole, likely part of a tent frame or awning structure. The hanging comprises a thick, woven band, from which hang alternating strands of thick, white rope with fluffy tassels and narrower strips of tanned leather and knotted brown cord. The visual texture is varied due to the different materials. The backdrop is a cluttered outdoor scene, including a partial view of a large RV to the right, and a workbench with various camping supplies, tools beneath and to the left. The lighting is natural daylight, with some areas in shadow.

Beau used his day off to go hiking up a mountain to do some #CedarBark #harvesting for more traditional #CoastSalish #weaving work.
He sent me photos as he hiked through the forest. These are just the bark harvest related photos with one fairy slipper orchid wildflower photo - he knows my fave colour is purple 🥰

A collage of images showing the process of stripping bark from a cedar tree and its uses. Images include a cedar tree with a long strip of bark removed revealing smooth wood underneath, close-up of hand touching stripped bark, rolled up harvested bark, forest floor scenery consisting of moss, twigs, and a purple wildflower.

Gorgeous early evening in #KulleetBay yesterday.
Seen from the beach at the rez.
#Stzuminus #FirstNation territory stretches over 1,200 hectares which includes four reserves; Say-la-quas 10, Squaw-hay-one 11, Oyster Bay 12, and Chemainus 13.
Stz’uminus First Nation members speak Hul’qumi’num.
The StzĘĽuminus are well-known for their war canoes. The vessels can range from 19 to 52 feet long. They are made of cedar and hand carved.

Wide angle shot. A body of ocean water is bisected with horizon. Islands stretch into the distance with low lying clouds. A large rainbow goes from the right shoreline upward through the shot. The foreground is heavy with detailed color and texture going from brown seaweed upward into clearer sky.

Photos Beau sent me today. He has cleaned up the outdoor canoe carving workspace. Getting things ready to teach children when the May healing canoe program starts in Kuleet Bay.

Two unfinished dugout canoes dominate the foreground, oriented lengthwise. They sit within an off-white canvas tent. The tent floor is covered with light brown wood shavings. A chainsaw is positioned near the bottom right. A plaid blanket hangs on the left tent wall, with a black jacket hanging on the upper right. In the background, visible through the open tent entrance, is a rural landscape and a red building. Tools and a workspace and trees are outsideInterior shot of a large, enclosed tent. Two partially carved dugout canoes dominate the foreground, resting on a floor covered in wood shavings. The canoe on the left is darker in color, and the canoe on the right has a lighter, fresh hue. Various woodworking tools, shelving units holding items, a table with equipment, and hanging clothes are visible, scattered along the tent's perimeter. The tent walls are made of a light canvas material stretched over a metal frame, and have a light-green roof.

A full day yesterday. We delivered some pickled salmon to an elder at #Stzuminus, checked in on my 88 y/o mom in #QualicumBeach, went up to Mt Washington in #ComoxValley to play in the snow then had lunch at the #FannyBay Inn on the way home. Best fries on #VancouverIsland and the hazy IPA reminds me of the Hanalei IPA from #Kona Brewing Co. Heck of a day. #pnw #VancouverIsland

I took a panorama photo from the front deck this morning. It a beautiful March morning here in southeast #VancouverIsland. This looks north across #Stzuminus and #Lyackson territories. #pnw

Panorama photo with field and tree in the foreground, evergreens in the mid, and ocean, sky and clouds in the background.
